Did any of you, or someone you know had removed Baker´s cyst?

The cystis bothering me a lot, and the pain somethimes does not let me sleep at night. Some doc told me that this is complicated operation, while another one said something oposite. Little confusing I have to say.

RE: Baker´s cyst

Hello Kayah. Like you, I too have a Politeal Cyst (bakers cyst) and I have had it for some time. I was fortunate in that a personal friend is a very well respected surgeon and advised me against the operation as it is complicated and can damage nearby blood vessels and nerves. I am not a Dr Kayah but I from what I have been told, and my own understanding a 'Bakers Cyst' although uncomfortable and painful (I have difficulty sleeping also) rarely causes long term harm. However it is important that your Dr observes your cyst over time, and will advise you on the possiblity of perhaps draining the cyst if the fluid inside becomes gel like. In many cases a 'Bakers Cyst' will clear up spontaniously and recently the discomfort and pain in my own knee have improved considerably. On a different note, I see you are from Portugal. I am considering moving to Portugal with my partner later this year to be near a friend who is ill, would you recomend it as a place to live. My plan is to live there for two years and see where destiny takes us after that.

RE: Baker´s cyst

I had a road trafic accident some time ago, and the cyst decidad to locate on the leg which got broken at that time. Is it just bad luck or maybe something else?

I suppose it is normal that the cyst is more noticable when I am more active?

I will not push for the operation, will try to lower the pain, but get it looked at from time to time by the doctor. Thank you for your post Selina.

Hi

Hello Kayah. A Bakers Cyst is usually a result of a problem with the knee joint itself, like arthritis, or a cartillage tear which could happen as a result of an accident or broken leg etc. Sometimes when the knee is damaged there is too much fluid produced and this can cause it. This is what happened me I think. Its very important to let the Dr keep an eye on it regularly. Your correct, as its in the knee area any increased activity will probably make it feel worse.

RE: Hi

Hey Guys sorry butting in........a few things that may help.....you are right,,synovial fluid leaks out the knee joint after injury or cartilage tear....goes weakest point of resistance popitela fossa back of the knee............forms a dull aching pain,.........usually bending standing etc aggravates it...............try ice for up to 5 minutes to tone down the inflam and pain, some people apply heat for up to 10 minutes and use an analgesic cream........stretch bandages or a brace aslo help as it stimulates the nerves into the feeling of stability of the knee jt..............later on stretch and strengh quads and the patela tendon..........try and avoid movements that aggravate it in the initial stages.................good luck

RE: Baker´s cyst

Hi kayah ,
just read your post - I have had 2 bakers cysts behind my left knee and 1 behind my right knee for about 4/5 years . I didnt know the right knee had one until I had a scan at hospital. I was on the point of asking for the ones on the left knee to be drained when I decided to have a course of massage . I also massaged and manipulated the knee myself and am delighted to say that the biggest one appears to have gone or reduced to such an extent that I cant feel it any more !
of course it could be co-incidence and I know they can go on their own but who knows - its worth a try maybe.
