RE: Unstable angina
It's horrible. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people suffering with the same thing. I have had an uncle die from heart disease, and have two uncles that still have it. There is an alternative that is natural, and safe, and may be worth having a look at. I use it as a prevention, and the science behind it has won the nobel prize as well. Good luck.

If you're concerned about the amount of drugs you are taking (and I personally wouldn't like to be on that many), I would go back to your GP/doctor and ask for a clear explanation of what each tablet is supposed to be for and why you are on such doses. For example, I know that lansaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, which effectively reduces/stops your stomach from producing so much acid. As far as I know (and I'm not medically qualified so best you check for yourself), it is used to help prevent stomach ulcers or to allow existing stomach ulcers to heal. It may be that your doctor thinks that you shouldn't be getting any pain from your heart now, so if there is pain, he's diagnosing it as a possible stomach ulcer and treating that. If he is suspecting a stomach ulcer and you would prefer natural remedies then you can look at things like liquorish and/or mastic gum which are both apparently good for that condition. First of all though, get details of the diagnosis from your GP.
Unfortunately a lot of GP's seem quite happy to prescribe things without actually telling the patient what they believe is the problem. This also works the other way, that patients don't get into dialogue with their GP to ask what they think it may be and get a clearer picture for themselves.
Hope you manage to get yourself sorted.

Hi Keith,
I have/had stable angina (pain with exertion), but exercise and a heart healthy lifestyle and diet has increased my tolerence for exertion. I was dx'd about 4 years ago for ischemic heart failure and mitral valve regurgitation. Medical therapy and an artery RCA stent (LAD remains totally blocked) has reduced left ventrical size to normal and EF from 13% to a normal 59%.
Isosorbide is slow acting nitrate for angina pertoris. I was taking 10 mg 2X daily, and now 5 mg before exercising on the treadmill (4.0 mph for 1/2 hr. 3 times a week). It is recommended to interrupt dosage of isosorbide occassionally as one can develop a tolerance. Glyceryl as needed for quick relief.
As you know unstable angina doesn't require exertion to develop pain, and your condition may be contraindicated for exercise.
There is EECP therapy for unstable angina individuals that has produced favorable results for some people.
Hi Keith
I too am concerned about the amount of drugs administered by doctors which by and large treat the symptom and not the cause.
I too take the natural alternative that Simon mentioned in his post.
You may also find it useful to read the book The Arginine Solution....or the Cholesterol Con, both real eye openers when it comes to how the body works and what may or may not ail us.
Best wishes for the future
