Hi - I'm hoping someone can give me an opinion(dangerous request;))
I had a little bit of an accident on Friday - door handle smashed into the crown of my head - no damage done - thick head:D - but the NHS Direct Line people said I should go to casualty - whilst there I had my BP taken and it was 158/90 which I thought was a little bit on the high side. It used to be about 141/70 when I was younger - I'm mid 40s, female about stone or so overweight - but apparently don't look it. I didn't feel particularly stressed after the accident - I do Yoga (2 teenage kids, 30+ hours a week job, and massage as well)
My question is - is that reading a bit on the high side? (I know its difficult without seeing me etc - but its an opinion I'm after not a diagnosis:))
TIA for anything you can offer

RE: Blood Pressure
I would say yes, as a woman in her 40s and not overly overweight your systolic (top number) is a little on the high side the bottom number borderline. How ever since you seem to have naturally high blood prressure & are a symptomatic I really wouldn't worry about it to much. But be aware of it. if you start getting headaches & or nose bleeds then look into it. It probably wouldn't do any harm just to make your GP aware of it any way. With head injuries we do look for a raise in BP along with a fall in pulse & a few other neurological things. If you should develop any disturbance in vision , and or a stiff neck and or vomiting and or headache the go back to A&E to be checked out.
Chances are you were a bit more stressed than you realised , & its made your BP go up a notch or two. Age alsao can bring the BP up as well.
Hope i haven't confused you even more;)

RE: Blood Pressure
Hiya....
Well since you were at the hospital and had just had an accident that could well account for an increase in blood pressure....maybe go get a more "standard" reading at the GP's (although some people's will go up as soon as they walk through the door:))..exercise is great for bringing down the bp...

RE: Blood Pressure
Hmmm, Thanks for the feedback - its pretty well what I thought.
I might have to go back to the quacks then - if only because it wasn't that long ago that I was presenting with chest pains - the Xray and ECG were all fine. The GP didn't actually take my BP when he referred me - which to be honest I didn't realise until after I left the surgery and I'd said he had - so both of us were wrong there!!
Time to take a chill pill and drink a glass of water.
Yes Tigs - the exercise bit well - I've got my swimming club membership form here and its supposed to have been in at the end of March:eek:! I will do it - its fitting it all in - its just as well I'm not competing anymore - first dive into the pool and the Norwegian Whaling fleet would be there harpoons and all:D
Thanks guys
