Hi all i guess Blood Pressure goes in here 😮

RE: Blood pressure
Hi Hawkwind
I have been told by every single nurse I have been to that I have high blood pressure and an old doctor said it was too high but at 26 didn't want to put me on tablets.
Went to my new doctor and he says that there is nothing to worry about so I am at a loss, I told the doc that I was fed up being told that I had high blood pressure only to be told by him that I didn't (well slightly raised but that could be due to the stress of knowing I had to have another test!).
My advise is to not worry about it and relax, do some deep breathing and a bit of meditation before, tell the doctor you are stressed at having all these tests done and could that be the reason your blood pressure is high.
I wouldn't want to go on tablets either and hope that someone has a good trick for lowering it.
Good luck sweety and I will be thinking of you.
With love
Maria
RE: Blood pressure
No Maria don't go on beta blockers, you won't ever be able to come off them!!!
Take Garlic, every day, high strength, it helps to lower BP and keep cholesterol down.
Hawthorn also helps but takes 3 months to kick in, once there it is brilliant, but it can be expensive to buy.
Medical science some 5 years ago upped the BP limit for safety, as it was too low before and people were being put on beta blockers for BP which was well within limits.
If you have 'white coat syndrome' like me, then your BP will be horrendous. My Gp sent me to have a BP monitor coz it refused to go down when he was taking it. The monitor showed a normal, slightly raised (age dear, age) BP within normal limits.
God Bless and love Gillyxxx
RE: Blood pressure

RE: Blood pressure
Cheers for that gilly [sm=hug.gif]- I would never go on them tablets anyway! horrid things - I hate taking tablets and when given anti depressants, only took them for about 2 months then kept forgetting them and ended up not taking them again! lol and yes I did lie to the doctor even tho he could see thet I never cashed in my repeat presecription erk!!!!
I think it goes back to when I had a very bad reaction to maleria tablets in sri lanka and kept being violently sick after about 3 days of them being in my system. I had to have a maleria blood test when I got home from the fact that the doctor didn't actually think I had any protection from them (luckily it ws ok), but after that I could't take anything for about 6 months even paracetomol, but strangly I could take (and still can) herbal remadies no problem!
I will try the garlic (will have to get the tablet form) and the hawthorn and see how it goes. I always hate it when I am aksed to have a pressure test and always get flustered and it is always high! a good book in the waiting room is a must at times like that! lol.
Thanks for the link Hwkwind very interesting, I will be ordering my hawthorn and garlic from holland and barrett tonight lol! - well couldn't wait and ordered them at lunch - the hawthorn ones I was amazed to find in H&B and I also got some Vit B complex as that is good for hormones and stress (had them before - they take about 3 months to get in your system but well worth the wait!).
RE: Blood pressure
Well i have just got back from the Doc and he said my BP was normal ~ phew! but i must go back in 6 months for another check because of my family history, and then again yearly, and continue on the healthy lifestyle, ~ no salt, very little alcohol, and reg exercise, and healthy eating, that way it will be more controlled, i asked him if he new any natural remedies and he didn't but when i mentioned Hawthorn he sounded quite interested and suggested i look into it , if i get high BP as i may when i get older.
RE: Blood pressure
Great news Hawkwind
I have decided that what I do now will help in the future so a few tablets will be fine, I am going to test it tho by going to the doctor in 6 months and asking for a blood pressure test lol!

RE: Blood pressure
Mine used to be very high when I was younger and he told me I would end up having a heart attack or the like by the time I was 40! Let me tell you I was down the gym 3-4times a week either working out or swimming, within 3 months I was lower than the average person....Weight is important but in terms of BP the exercise is much better.

This is taken from 'The Food Pharmacy' by Jean Carper
High Blood Pressure:
Mackerel- a couple of cans a week- can depress blood pressure. Also oat bran and high fiber fruits and vegetables of all types help. Shown also to push down blood pressure: olive oil, garlic, seaweed (kelp), yogurt, green tea, legumes, and milk. Surprisingly, coffee drinking does not cause or aggravate high blood pressure except, apparently, among smokers.

RE: Blood pressure
Was going to start a thread on this subject as we have recently discovered that my husband's BP is sky high. Our daughter discovered when she took it for him just out of curiosity. She is a nurse and likes to keep an eye on my BP because of the heart problems.
He has been to the doctors and they have given him a thorough 'going over'. He has had blood and urine tests and an ECG. He doesn't smoke, is not overweight, eats a fairly healthy diet. None of the tests showed any reason for his BP being so high. The doctor has put him on pills to try to lower it as it really is very high.
I was interested in reading your tips and will chat with him about them. He doesn't like the idea of being on pills for life
RE: Blood pressure
Hello Maureen,
I'm on three tabs a day to help keep my BP at a normal level. I didn't like the idea either but what is the other choice? I've already survived a stroke because of high BP. At the end of the day, ask yourself what's more important? Hypertension is known as the silent killer and should be taken extremely seriously.

RE: Blood pressure
Hi Gina
You are so right in what you say. My mother had high blood pressure and had 2 massive strokes, she survived the first which she had when only 46 but the second killed her. So you can imagine how I felt when we found out about my husband's high blood pressure.
I feel we were so fortunate that my daughter discovered the problem and to think she only did it out of curiosity. My husband is 58 and you would have sworn he was in such good health. It is over 20 years since he visited a doctor so this has come as such a shock.
Do the tablets work ? Is your BP now under control ? Have the pills had any unwanted side effects ?
Love and blessings
Maureen
