Hi
I did a search on this condition and it appears there have been a few threads about it some while ago, but I thought I would ask again in case any new HPers have experienced it.
I have just been diagosed with paroxysamal atrial fibrillation, which is not life threatening in itself but can increase the risk of stroke apparently if not medicated. Having said that it is horrible when an attack comes on and I am going to take the meds prescribed and follow up tests.
However, does anyone have any advice about how I can help myself with this condition naturally to compliment my treatment?
I live pretty healthily, eat well - not much meat, sugar, saturated fats etc (probably a bit too much salt), exercise regularly (running, swimming, gym etc) don't have a particularly stressful lifestyle. In fact I have a pretty nice life and otherwise am healthy.
Any experiences, advice anyone?
Hi Rachel,
My uncle has suffered from this on and off for years. He has found that for him, it is linked to his vagus nerve being irritated due to an old neck injury (it might be worth seeing an osteopath or chiropractor to see if that makes a difference). Seeing a kinesiologist (he found out that onions have a really bad effect on him for some reason) and having Bowen technique done have both helped him.
It might be worth getting your thyroid levels checked if this hasn't already been done by the dr, as this can be a cause.
Making sure you eat loads of colourful fruit (especially berries) and vegetables for their flavonoids is really important for the health of the cardiovascular system.
Good luck!
Aha - kinesiologist! You are the second person to mention this to me, so it is clearly something I should be attending to. I will ask around for some recommendations locally.
Yes - I have had my thryoid checked and its normal and I have berries and yogurt every day for breakfast so I think I am generally eating the right kind of things. However, there may be something (like onions in your uncle's case) that is just not good for me and I don't know about it. So.....
Thank you for the good advice!
