Hi Star99,

You really need to find an emergency dentist because it's possible that your daughter could be suffering from "dry socket" which occurs in about 5% of extrctions.

Do a google on dry socket and you'll find an overview of the condition.

Namaste,
Myarka.

Yes,Myarka that is what the receptionist told me on Monday when I rang, she said it would go away, just take painkillers and use lots of mouthwash. My husband has gone off in the car with her,not sure where but she was so bad.Its her second only extraction and this is a nightmare for her. Thanks for that.

Bless her, not nice at all.

I had dry socket once, not funny but all I could do was take painkillers and rinse with luke warm salt water.

Please tell her not to be tempted to drink alcohol, she doesn't want to raise her blood pressure.

It's better to apply something cold to the area and rest.

If you call the nearest A&E department they should be able to give you a contact number for the nearest 'out of hours emergency dentist' - we found one through NHS 24, at 2am, when my daughter was writhing in pain 2 days after having 2 wisdom teeth extracted last month (general anaesthetic - part of her jaw removed - stitches in her tongue etc etc). Luckily our nearest clinic was only a 30 minute drive away, and the Aussie dentist who was on duty was absolutely brilliant. We had to pay a 'nominal fee' of around £8 at that time, probably free for NHS clients (are there any left??)
I had to utilise the out of hours service 4 years ago, also after an extraction, when I developed a raging infection 36 hours later - 5 o'clock on a Friday!! The duty dentist was able to prescribe enough anti-biotics to get me through the weekend.

Sorry Star - just noticed you are in Ireland! I would imagine you would need to contact any local hospitals for info about emergency dentistry.

Oh Starr really feel for your poor daughter - there is nothing worse than dry socket. Am more than a little concerned that the original dentist left some tooth fragments in the socket though . I am guessing you will be raising this with him/her when they return from their holiday...

OH YES, I will be having a little chat with him.The other thing is that my daughter said that this dentist sprayed her mouth first before the needles and she was much more relaxed with him.I may be changing dentists.

Hope you can now find some time to devote to yourself and some relaxation 🙂

This may not be of any use to you as you live in Ireland, but perhaps to others who may be following this thread:

http://www.pals.nhs.uk/

website of the NHS’s Patient Advice and Liaison Services, through whom official complaints can be made. Very helpful people, IME, though of course I never got to hear the final outcome 😉

Acupuncture scheme for tooth pain:
Dampness---> Wind---> Cold---> energy of a particular tooth --->
Cold sedate, Fire tone up, Light, Darkness ctrl.
In general pains are especially well cured by moxas, besides,
rather safe for self-treatment.
