Dear ClareyAngel

My first thoughts would be do you work in an office and if so how much work is done at a computer?

Sometimes is is poor posture that can cause problems.

Without more history and details, we can't give any specific advice, try a chiropractor/osteopath and see what they say

Have you been seen by a medic?. Taking diazepam can relax muscles, also try a warm wheat bag around the neck.
Are you stressed and tense?.

'Need to exercise but scared that my neck may get worse'

Go to see a professional who will assess the problem and give perhaps postural advice, reassurance and appropriate exercises that will not aggravate your neck:)

Hi Clareyangel,

Have you ever tried McTimmoney Chiropractic?

It is a very gentle, but very powerful, form of chiropractic that helped me when I had very bad neck/ back pain. You can type 'McTimmoney chiropractic' into a search engine, find a list of practitioners and see if there is one in your area. I would sincerely recommend this therapy - it helped where nothing else did.

Its only my personal feeling on the subject, but I would stay well away from Diazepam. It is a very strong (the weakest of the benzodiazepines, but still strong) and addictive drug and really best avoided if at all possible.

Melissa

Hi, I had muscle spasms too, which were associated with whiplash.
Here's what worked for me... not simple or quick, I'm afraid!

1) My doctor put me on Voltarol, & gave me some exercises to do.
2) I also saw a McTimoney chiropractor who did a huge amount of excellent work putting me back into alignment.
3) Then I had massage & acupuncture from a Chinese clinic.
4) Lots of swimming & as much exercise as I could handle to keep every thing moving.
