had this tooth extraction out last december had my mouth open for one hour and dentist had to ask he colleague to help finish taking it out( i could feel the pain as had three lot of injections and they didnt really work ouch!)
anyway infection developed straightaway i think i had abcess that he didnt know when he took tooth out so had amoxyliin for one week that didnt work so had to have metraonozole for the second week then got this awful cold that made me stay at home for one week too weak to go out.but i also had this jaw, cheek, under jaw pain and when the cold was gone it got worse could feel pain in my earside of neck and head.painful went to dentist had two xrays and after a discussion with the same colleague! he said it is not dental id have to see my gp so went to see dr friday he diagnosed inflammation of my jaw by my ear( the one where you open mouth) as i had my mouth open long time while was having tooth out funnily enough on the other side but he said that can happen.
i got dicloflex tablets 50mg three times a day.side effects ugh but i can still feel pain at times. i wonder if it take time for the pain to go away as i was under the impression this tablets take the pain away?thats why i am on this forum as pain woke me up at 3.00am and i went back to sleep but the pain came back around 5.45am and woke me up. i took tablet at 3.15 am next one will be at 10.15 and then 5.15 and then 1.15.
any ideas should i go back to doctors tomorrow if the pain hasnt gone away?
could it be something else?
would appreciate any ideas.

It seems unlikely that it's anything other than a result of this dental treatment - but that's not to say it's impossible, so perhaps a just in case visit back to the GP would be sensible, as you've been in such a lot of pain, you poor thing.
I wonder if the joint has been overstretched in some way? Perhaps a visit to a craniosacral person might help you find out what's gone wrong and give you some relief.
Hope you feel a lot better soon, and that you get a good night's sleep tonight.
Lots of love,
Sharonx

Hi amthystfairy,
I had a similar incident in 1988, when serving in the army, I went into hospital to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted, ended up with over 75 stitches, was hell of an op and couldnt eat solids for 3 months, now I still cant face soup........ this is probably not the case in your situation so dont worry
I got an infection, which was difficult to clear up, I used to sit on the AGA all night with either cold compress or hot pack to try and ease pain and watch the clock for the next available time to take painkillers and antibiotics, anti inflams etc. Eventaully ended up at A+E cos the pain was too much, turned out my jaw was fractured in 3 places,After 3 months off work and nearly 4 stones weight loss I had reconstructive surgery to remove my damaged teeth which had been cracked in original op and had to have them replaced with gold crowns.
The moral here is go and see your GP asap, do not get fobbed off, it should not still be painful after this amount of time, so just see GP and tell him/her you deserve better care than you are currently receiving,
regards
Gaz
Thanks Gaz, yes i will go back i think tomorrow morning as have had bad night again, took the tablets at 12am and they didnt work.it is lovely when they do work and i feel almost no pain.i find eating sets the pain off and if talking too much or laughing so am trying hard to keep mouth shut!

Hi Amethystfairy
I'm no expert but it does sound a bit like TMJ syndrome which I learned a bit about on a course last friday! If so, massage treatment including trigger point therapy to the neck and jaw muscles could help enormously.
Hope this is of use.
Regards
Dave
you are right it is TMJ but dr told me it is lockjaw but i saw the words tmj on computer at the doctors the thing is it is taking ages to get better and taking lot of tablets is what i dont like to do. supposed to go today but overslept so will go tom or weds afternoon.
it might be somthing else to TMJ that drs are not aware of. i will google it and see what else i can find out. i think i will mention what you said Dave about massage points to the dr.just hope he doesnt think it is rubbish, i wont let him fob me off as it has been ages!
Amethystfairy:(
A common symtom of TMJ problems is inability to open the mouth properly, which could be regarded as "lockjaw." Good luck at the Doctors, hope you have a progressive one that is OK with alternative therapies rather than a dinosaur. I am sure from what you have described that trigger point therapy would help you.
Hope you get fixed soon
Dave
