I am currently working on an issue of Thought for Food about supplements. Should we take them? And if we do, how to choose from the scores of options available?
I wonder if anyone can recommend a British website, without connections to any particular product, which gives advise on what to look for. In my own experience it is never a good idea to buy cheap ones, but there must be other things to go by.
Unfortunately I can only find American sites.
Thanks! Love, Annemieke.

I think cheap can be fine for some supplements and not for others. For me the most important factor is whether this is something that I might actually need. If take a supplement, I want it to add something to my daily life – I do not want to it ‘replace’ something that I could otherwise eat if that makes sense. I think people are becoming too reliant on supplements. As far as the website goes, I only come up with US options as well.

You're right: vitamin C for instance, can be bought cheap. But things like magnesium, or vitamin D, can't, in my experience.

Taking food supplement is a great alternative to get enough essential nutrients and improve our health. However, not everyone needs to take it. It's often quite difficult which product is effective and safest. Hence, be sure to read labels to see if it has the right forms of nutrients that you're looking for. The price is also the best way to judge the quality of supplements. Apart from these, consulting a health care provider is the right step to find the right supplement for your needs.
