Recently I read one or two articles about the new fashionable health foods (goji berries, acai, wheatgrass, maca, chia seeds, manuca honey, coconut oil, spirulina, quinoa, etc) and how they can easily be replaced by good, traditional, local stuff.
I’d like to write about this on my food blog, but can’t find the articles anymore. Can anyone help me? It may have been in the Guardian or the New Scientist. Or in the Daily Mail, which I read (honestly!) at my boss’ place when I’m bored …..
Hi A.M.
Well, those articles could be anywhere. I'm always seeing articles promoting the benefits of various health foods, though don't recall any about them being replaced by local stuff.
Saying that though, many of the "new fashionable health foods" you list are not really new, they're just stocked and advertised more than they used to be due to people getting more on the 'health' bandwagon (so I guess that's what you mean by it being a "new fashion"). e.g. Manuka honey has been around for many years, as has coconut oil, quinoa etc. and 'traditionally' they have been foodstuffs for a long time in many 'non local' traditions/countries.
Anyway, maybe someone will have read the same articles and be able to tell you where they are (have you searched the relevant websites e.g. new scientist, BBC etc.)?

Get googlin'. lol Maybe you're not finding it because it's not the Guardian or New Scientist and it's throwing you off in your search.
I think I will forget about those articles. I'll just search in general about fancy fashionable food fads and the boring local fodder they so profitably aim to replace.
