Has anybody got any suggestions for easing lethargy?
For me I am feeling lethargic in the mornings. I'm not working at the moment so I wake up at around 7 (when husband gets up) but often I feel so tired still that I just can't get out of bed. When I do get up early after an hour or two I have to have a lie down for a while. By about 10am I'm fine but I would like to feel fine at 7am because I have so many things I want to do! I'm happy not to be working at the moment but don't want to waste my time sleeping.
I go to bed by 11pm so eight hours sleep should be plenty. I'm vegetarian but eat healthily. I'm 34.
I live abroad and don't have access here to many things here. So I need any suggestions of things I can do myself at home.
Thanks.
I am not given to lethargy at all, I wish I was a bit more relaxed!
However, I was feeling a bit like you a couple of months ago. Someone on a forum suggested it might be the thyroid, and he turned out to be right: I had been doing yoga with a turtleneck jumper on for ages, and in certain postures that squeezed my thyroid.
I don't expect it would be that sort of thing with you, but I mention it just in case!
Another approach:
You say you are abroad. Could it be to do with that? Have you been abroad long? Do you miss your friends and family? Will you stay in this place for a while, is it worth making local contacts?
Love, Annemieke.
Have you become inactive/sluggish? Could be that doing some light exercises would be a way of revitalising the body.
A splash of cidar vinegar in a glass of water is said to balance the acidity/alkalinity in our bodies and be a boost - like a tonic. I have often found it beneficial.
Are you getting enough oxygen? Do you aerate your rooms/open windows or go out and breathe in the outdoor air (preferably around natural settings like parks where they have trees)?
Just drinking more water can also be beneficial since body hydration can be a source of lethargy also.
Lastly, find something that inspires you - feeds your passion, boosts mental alertness.
It may also be as a result of a weather change. If the climate where you are is way to different from where you come from, your body might be having difficulties adjusting.
I, for instance, have troubles adjusting to the spring weather, it makes me very lethargic and I sleep an awful lot. What I do is jog or play a sport. That raises the adrenalin levels and makes me me feel more awake and alive.
You also do you think that may be due to the lack of having things to do.. that makes me very lethargic.
So get active and try to fill your time with things that will keep you occupied 😉
Good luck 🙂
Hi Willow,
Are you feeling depressed? When I am I find it difficult to get up in the mornings:025
Have you had your iron levels checked? You could be anaemic, or given the lack of sunlight lacking in vitamin D.
Just some ideas - I'm not expert 🙂

How long have you not been working? And how long have you been vegetarian? I would definitely get anaemia ruled out as a cause.
People feel lethargic when they are involved in uninteresting things. So, it is advisable to invest your time in doing those things in which you have an interest.
Avoid consuming processed or canned food. Cold beverages like soda and heavy drinks such as rich cream milk should also be avoided.
I used to feel lethargic, and then I discovered that I had an iron deficiency. Iron is the most common deficiency, especially for women, so for anyone that is feeling lethargic I always suggest they up their iron intake.
In the UK we have a supplement called Spatone which is a natural supplement - it's basically just iron-rich mineral water. Everyone I have introduced it to sings its praises, you'd think we all worked for their marketing department. 1 or 2 sachets a day, and after a few days my energy levels are up.
Otherwise, you could increase foods that are rich in iron. Also, nettle tea is high in iron and a great detoxifier so it should help boost your energy levels in more ways than one.
Good luck, I was in your situation so I know how annoying it can be!
Oh, and also - when I got my iron levels checked the first time, the doctor didn't tell me I was low on iron. The threshold was something like 15 (don't remember what units), and I was 25. I later read online that the ideal lower threshold for women is 65... So ask your doctor for details and don't assume they will tell you if you are just a little over the lower threshold!
Feeling lethargic in the morning means that your body is not resting enough during the night. This is usually due to late hour meals and/or overeating for a long period.
Being a vegetarian does not mean that you can eat as much as you want and when you want - even when you eat all the "healthy" goodies. Overeating is very easy to accomplish even for vegetarians, especially when someone eats many times through the day in order to speed the metabolism. Or when somebody consumes a lot of "powerful" foods that his/her body cannot deal with!
Digestion is a very energy consuming procedure for human body, so when we overeat all we do is give our organism a hard time. Especially late meals add an unnecessary load to the digestive system when it is supposed to rest and do some "housekeeping" - meaning detoxing.
If you indeed have late meals, even small ones to just keep your stomach busy, skip them for a couple of weeks. Otherwise, try to cut your meal portions in half and do not consume any high nutritional super foods so you can help your system to recover by assimilating simpler and not so "demanding" types of food. Note that you cannot shift your diet to super healthy foods overnight - your organism needs time to adapt.
Hope this will help you...
