Hi All
Wasn't sure where to post this,so please move if need be 🙂

I have a new client with Dupuytren's Disease and she wants a hand massage
Has anyone come across this disease before?
She has 2 fingers curled into the palm of her hand, the other hand just 1.
Any suggestions or help gratefully received.

Allison :p

It is called Dupuytrens contracture and is normally corrected surgically I believe. My sister had surgery to correct it ...as did the late Baroness Thatcher I seem to remember.

The problem is limited to the hand - i.e. it isn't a symptom of an underlying disease elsewhere.
Does that help?

Have a look on google - lots to read.

Also founed this:
It would be well to remember that tendons require far longer than bones in order to heal so alternative therapies might take 6 months and require continuing exercise.
Anecdotal evidence cites a number of compounds as providing benefits for Dupuytren's patients, but there is little or no formal scientific evidence to support these claims.<a class="go2wpf-bbcode" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="[52]">[52]

Personally I would be REALLY cautious about using DMSO. It is potentially very nasty stuff.

Hi Sally

I was wondering why you say to be cautious about DMSO? It is highly thought of in some circles.

Hi Allison
I have so far treated 6 clients with this condition.
Massage has been very helpful in stopping progression of the condition at the early stage when nodules or cords have not yet contracted past 10 or 20 degrees.
However as your client is at an advanced stage you are most likely to be able to soothe and soften her hands.
There is more information on my web site.
Regards Stephen
