Hi everyone

Well as some of you may have read I got a wisdom tooth out and been having a very painful few days.

Thankfully I got too see my dentist earlier and I have a dry socket and an infection. Have too take Amoxicillin 500mg and Metronidazole 200mg three times daily for 5 days.

Just thinking I might take a probiotic with these and have been reading various info saying too take it with the antibiotics then other's say to take it after the course finishes?

My tummy is just so irritated/sore already from taking Nurofen/paracetamol so the pharmacist recommended I take co-codamol (effervescent) now so hopefully that helps.

As for the probiotics should I take them with these antibiotics or wait and take them when the course is finished? Should I go for a high strength probiotic?

Much appreciated

I always take pro-biotics with anti-biotics (and when I was on co-codamol briefly in 2001, I ended up with dreadful constipation, so took a gentle laxative too!!!) and make sure that I have plenty of fresh veg and fruit - and cut down on stuff with high sugar.

Yeah I'm stocking up on the fruit and veg so maybe a few nice juices soon 🙂 ok so think I'll take the probiotic along with these antiobiotics - is it ok to take these together or maybe wait an hour or so after taking the antibiotic then take the probiotic?

What strength one did you take? 🙂

I generally take stuff I get through Forever Living. I take it first thing in the morning while I'm making a cuppa and dealing with the animals (dogs, cats, chickens, guinea pigs etc).

Simple answer yes - in fact they are sometimes recommended to try and prevent antibiotic uiduced diarrhoea

Hi Lilacjewel

Glad you got to the dentist to get a diagnosis and prescription. Hope you feel better soon.

As far as probiotics are concerned, probably it is a good idea to take them while on the antibiotic, as some of them will survive and it keeps you on a higher level of beneficial bacteria than if you wait until the course is finished. I would definitely take a quality one with a range of beneficial bacteria like this one - you are on a fairly mega dose of antibiotics so you will need good support.

All the best
