hi, i'm new to the site and looked at it for the first time today. it's been very helpful and comforting to read about people suffering from similar things.

i would like some advice on my many tummy problems. i thought i might as well just list all the things wrong and see what people say. sorry about rambling on!

well i woke up at 7am this morning with mild lower abdominal pain with very bad nausea. i think it was trapped wind, the pain isn't the problem, it's the nausea, it's just so unpleasant, not to mention i have a phobia of being sick so it makes me very anxious and i get myself in state which doesn't help things. if anyone could reccomend something for the nausea i would be greatful.

i've used to get these symptoms in late 2006 but for the past 4 months i've been fine. they diagnosed me with IBS but then i seemed to get better when i cut caffeine and pork out of my diet (strange i know). i don't get the problem very often but when i do it's very unpleasant. i still have some tablets left over from when the nausea was bad back in 2006 - prochlorperazine. they work REALLY well but i am running out and i'm worried they won't prescribe anymore. anyway i hate to rely on tablets, it can't be doing me any good plus they knock me out! it's like taking horse tranquilisers!

i had an ultrasound a month ago and it was clear- no gallstones. but i was feeling better by then anyway so i didn't go for any further tests. i only get the problem every few weeks or so but it is so unpleasant. i feel like when i go to the doctor he thinks i'm a total nut. because i tell him i don't get it very often anymore, i get a look as if to say: why are you here then???

when i usually wake up with this problem it's about 3 or 4 in the morning, always similar time, i assume this might have something to do with the time i eat my evening meal??? the pain is always from just below my ribs right down to pelvic area and comes and goes, gets worse and worse, going to the toilet doesn't relieve it and i have to wait for it to pass on it's own.

it's just so unpleasant, any ideas to what it could be?? or any medicines i can take to relieve symtoms or prevent it?

thankyou in advance and sorry for rambling,

sophie

RE: please help- abdominal problems!

Hi Sophie,

Welcome to HP:D

I have suffered with odd sensations and pain in my stomach since I was a teenager, I am now 47! I have, however, reduced the symptoms dramatically by cutting out all starchy foods, that is; bread, rice, pasta and potatoes. It has actually given me a new lease of life!!

Just like you I went to have scans for gall bladder problems and it was suggested that it may be irritable bowel. As a precaution I would still continue with the doctors, but it wouldn't hurt to look into your diet, even make yourself keep a food diary, so that you might be able to work out if there is some pattern to it. If you cut out starchy or high carb foods, you should find that you are less bloated (you don't mention this, but I would assume you do get bloated!) and you may lose weight (should you need to) I actually lost one and a half stone since christmas!!

Hope this is some help to you.

Love Crabapple xx

My hubby suffered similar problems - he tried the usual mediactions - but the best we've found if Gripe Water - yes, the stuff they give to babies with tummy problems. And boy does it work. I tablespoon works instantly - no side effects, no drugs:)

Love and hugs

RE: please help- abdominal problems!

i haven't had much success of cutting that food out of my diet in the past few weeks! i'm terrible about things like that. but my diet really isn't that bad, it's very well balanced and i eat quite normally, not unhealthy but not really healthy either!!! i had an attack of these symptoms today and the gripe water did help actually.

thankyou both for the advice! i just wish it would go away all together but that's life! i hope i don't have it till i'm 47 like you!poor thing! [&:]
