Hiya,

i have a 10 year old daughter who is very phobic of surgery/surgical operations. She has had 2 bacterial and few more viral infection so far this year. She really suffers from it herself. High temperature...sore throat, no ice cream for long time. Family doctor said they're not too bad. I know the surgery is the best option for long term but she can't even bear to hear the idea. So it's not the option for us.

So i thought there might another way to avoid surgery or practice her tonsils before they get too big.

can you please advise us if there is any way we can about it.

Thank you very much.

Hi Bayanaa,

If you did decide to go for surgery, I would find a practitioner experienced in working with children and appropriately insured, who specialises in treatment of phobias (hypnotherapist, EFT practitioner etc) - children tend to be very receptive to mind therapies and in good hands the treatment is likely to be effective and long-lasting.

Generally, in my experience of work with adults who were phobic of surgery/doctors etc, for most of them this fear started in childhood; and as they avoided any surgical/medical procedures, this avoidance tended to feed and intensify the fear over the years, since they have not had a chance to confront it. On the other hand, it is possible that the phobia will fade away naturally as your daughter grows up - if it doesn't though, it may be worth seeking some help with it.

Thank you Misha,

It was very useful to hear to what you thought about it. I am thinking about to give another a year or so. In meantime, i will be studying more about it and observing her. If she does not seem to grow out of it i will contact a hypnotherapist for help.

thanks again.

best wishes,

bayanaa
