Hi

This is going to sound odd, but I have strange back pain and I don't know what's causing it. The pain comes when I've eaten a meal late at night then go to bed when I'm feeling full. I can't sleep because I have pain in my back - it's in the lower to mid-back area. I find I have to get up, and drink about 3 pints of water - I then burp lots (sorry!) and it goes. Any ideas what this could be? Can you get trapped wind in your back? (My stomach doesn't hurt). I don't know whether it's because the meal has too much salt, or whether it's trapped wind etc - no idea what it is really. It only happens when I eat a meal late in the evening. I had my kidneys checked a couple of months ago (urine test) and I was told they were fine - no infection.

Thanks for any advice!

Not sure, but possilbly this may help. Do seek medical advice if you get worse.

Your organs, like your muscles, are surrounded by fascial bags, which are interconnected - like a string of differently shaped and sized sausages. They are contained by your abdominal cavity but also attached to it through the fascia. These bags (stomach, spleen, intestines etc) should be able to glide around each other. It sounds to me as though you may have adhesions - kind of sticking places where the bags don't glide smoothly around each other. So when your belly is extra full and you are immobile you feel it in your back as these sticking places don't allow for expansion.
It may help if you take up an exercise type where you go through a whole range of movement such as Pilates or yoga so that your internal structure is properly mobilised. For instance if you twist around it won't be just your external structure that's mobilising but also your innards! And with regular, gentle exercise of this nature your system becomes healthier.

Hi

Thanks for your reply - I'll have a look at taking up pilates and see if it helps. It only happens occasionally and come to think of it - when I used to exercise regularly I never used to get it (been a bit lazy recently!).

Thanks!
