Hello. I have just recently come across this website.

I am having a L5/S1 microdiscectomy operation for my slipped disc on Thursday (Right side). I am looking forward to getting it done now but i am quite nervous about how bad the pain will be afterwards. I just hope this works as i have had a terrible time with this, been totally housebound and i have to lie flat all day and night. I am on a huge amount of drugs too. Just nervous i guess...

Hello,

Saturday =

Well i came home from hospital on Friday, i didn't go down for the operation
till Thursday at 6.30pm, came back to my room at 10pm. So now i am home, my back is pretty darn sore and tight. I am comfortable on my tummy at night or on my side. I cannot lie on my back at all, just too painful. However, my foot pain has gone! So has my leg pain and the bad, bad pain i had in my right buttock. amazing. I know i am still on a lot of drugs (gave me ketamine during op), so i won't fully know how i am until i am off the drugs totally (long way off), but so far it seems a positive start to it. For such a small cut, the pain inside is surprising. I keep moving though and walking round the house. The only problem i still have is having a pee is really slow, which is how it was before the op, i do go but it takes a while to happen and i normally have to run the tap to help.

--------

Sunday =

Well today i haven't felt as well in myself. I have slept all day, been utterly exhausted, never felt like this after an op before, husband says it must be all the drugs they gave me during the op. They had to give me more drugs than the normal person as i was on so many drugs before op (slow release Tramadol, Gabapentin, Morphine, butrans patches (30mg), Tramadol) plus citalopram (had to go on anti depressant cos of the pain). So the anesthetist was concerned before the op as he explained they had to give me more drugs than i was already on to cover the pain fully, plus the butrans blocks some drugs so they had to give me a lot. When i saw him the next day he was so much happier than when i saw him before the op, so i think he was quite concerned, he told me before the op that i was "difficult".
Anyway.... as i said, felt rough all day today, had a tummy ache, felt a bit sicky and just knackered. Back still pretty sore and tight, and if i do sit it is still uncomfortable and i then feel i need to stand - all as expected probably.

I wasn't allowed to sit for longer than 20 minutes after my op (L4/5) Take things slowly. It will take several days for all the drugs to clear from your system. The reason you felt worse on Sunday was probably you were more awake and more aware of the effects of the drugs. I hope by now you are starting to feel better.
