Ive posted briefly last week whilst i was in severe pain with my herniated L5S1 disc, and have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon on Monday 18th however surgery really is a last resort for me. I researched everything whilst in bed last week and came across IDD therapy which is a non invasive series of procedures on a special machine. I have been having one every other day and although im not yet jumping through hoops i can categorically say that the pain has all but subsided for now and i am able to get about the house without the need for my meds so much. Im hoping to return to work on the 25th by which time i will have had a further three sessions. I strongly suggest anyone with similar symptoms to me including the sciatica which nearly caused me to want to end it all a week or so ago to research it and see if it is available at a osteopathy near you. Heres a link to the clinic i go to under Robert Shanks who also has a Harley Street Clinic where he works with Dr Martin Knight and a video of whats involved.
Regards
Rob

IDD reply
Hi there
I'm glad you have got some relief from this therapy. I've got a friend who has recently had a course of IDD and also had success with it. He was at the same place but at the Waterloo clinic. I have had surgery so not sure if I'd qualify for this but I wondered, is it expensive per session? (if not covered by insurance) how many sessions did you have before you found a difference? Are you tied in to a set amount of sessions? My friend found the pain was a little worse the next day before improving, did you find this? Sorry for lots of questions! I am quite intrigued by it.....
Best wishes for more relief !
I went for the first time Friday before last for an assessment and Robert felt my condition would benefit from it so I had the one session and booked a second for the following Monday. Over the weekend although I didn't notice significant changes I knew something had occurred so I went on the Monday and paid for ten up front. This gives a £50 discount as I don't have insurance since being made redundant. The cost was £700 for ten but I do believe insurance covers it along as the therapist and clinic is Bupa or similarly covered. I've since had three more! Monday, Wednesday and Friday just gone and yesterday (Saturday) I was able to do household chores I've been unable to do for almost three weeks. Sweeping! Mopping, cooking and washing up and looking after my two sons whilst wife was at work. This has been heaven sent considering I could not leave my bed previously. I've been led to believe there is no set amount you can or should have but when your condition (and in my case herniated L5 S1) is so severe the norm is about 20 sessions but after only the four I'm from 11/10 for pain to 2 or 3/10 for pain. I feel no discomfort after intact feel great and Ben who I see now stretches and massages muscles affected afterwards. I do wake up each morning though with a sore left knee but this fades after 20 minutes or so of gentle stretching and exercise. I can't speak highly enough of it and if it holds of the need for surgery all the better. If you've already had surgery you can still use it but they do suggest a six month gap allowing your body to heal fully from the surgery. Waterloo is as you suggest another one of the clinics owned by Robert Shanks and his Spine Plus organisation so it won't hurt if you made some enquiries. I'll keep you informed as to my progress and or set backs.

Rob
That's brilliant Rob! I've read so many posts from people with severe back pain and little or no hope of reprieve. Keep us posted as to how you get on.
I had a look at their website (US) to find out what it is about - see here - and it definitely looks interesting.
Wishing you all the best.
