I have arthritis in the first joint of my index finger (and others) on my right hand and it is noticeably bent inwards towards my thumb. I use a computer all day in my job and am wondering if consistent use of the mouse with this finger is causing it to bend? What do you think? I have thought about perhaps putting a splint of some sort on it at night, do you think this would make a difference?

This might help - also on a Pilates course the other day one of the teacher trainers said that it helps to push your whole hands into the desk, from above and below.
RE: Mouse Finger?
Thanks for the link spinal music. 🙂 Not sure I understand the bit about Pilates though, I've tried it and it's very uncomfortable. [>:]
RE: Mouse Finger?
Hi Poppet.
For relief in the short term - I would say that the easiest option is to swap to using your other hand for mouse use. If you go into control panel and flip the mouse buttons over, so it's a mirror image, then brain will be able to adapt a lot quicker. After a few hours you'll not know the difference and how the keyboard is laid out it actually makes more sense to use Left hand for the mouse.
There's a much more detailed version of the why's and wherefores, but don't have time to dig out. If you do a Forum Search on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or RSI with my user name as Author, then it should throw it up.
I would guess that there's more to it than that, i.e. a predisposition to inflammation of the joints, but that should help in the meantime.
And.

Thanks Andrew, I'll try that.
