Hi all,
I have been having problems with my thumbs and elbows. Had a blood test for Rheumatoid Factor which came back negative. I've just had more blood tests today which include a full blood count, not sure what the others are. The doctor today thinks I might be suffering from Tennis Elbow!! I've not massaged for 4 weeks now.
I'm stiff from fingers to elbows when I wake in the morning, it takes me some time to get going and then I'm fine apart from very tender thumb joints and elbows!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Wendy
Hi Wendy
Tennis Elbow is usually self limiting and rest is the key factor in recovery. Refraining from the cause is crucial if possible. has you Dr given you anti-inflammatory tablets?
Hopefully this is a one off incidence but problems with arms is a main problem with masseurs:confused: you need to consider 'hands'free massages and some physio may help you.
Good Luck and speedy recovery
Nicola
Try Bowen too - it helped for my left arm, but not my right - I had to have steroid injections for that, and finally carpal tunnel surgery - but initially, the Bowen did wonders. I was advised to avoid massage for 6 weeks, but not always possible when it is the sole income!
A physiotherapy assessment would allow the problem to be diagnosed so that the appropriate treatment/ advice could be given - go through your GP or go privately to someone that has been recommended to you:)
What abouttrying some acupuncture - I know of several therapists who have had problems caused by using strong pressure when massaging who have had some success with this. Also are you using your bodyweight properly, as then the arms don't take too much of the strain.
Please look after yourself and for a longer career consider Hands Free.
