Over the past two weeks I've woken up to feel a slight pain and stiffness in my right index finger. It seems to be not just on the joint but sort of going along my finger. It feels like I've been holding something very tight for a long time and my finger has frozen in that postion. After being awake and moving around for five minutes it goes. But I've noticed ont the other hand, a similar pain at the side of one of my knuckles. I will go to the doc but does this sound like arthritis to you? many thanks.

Hi, it could be arthritis, but it could also be something called or known as trigger finger. My mum had it and they gave her cortisone injections for a while. You can have an operation to fix it I think - something to do with the tendons or ligaments. I would see your doctor, but if it's arthritis, you can do all sorts without having to take medication - hot and cold packs, exercises, circulation boosters/TENS machines are good for reducing pain. Hope this helps!
