I am currently trying Aloe Vera, anyone heard of Irish Puteen Cure? Does alcohol rubbed on the legs help?

No not heard of that one - although I have come across 'massage with castor oil' for arthritis (mixed with olive oil or another carrier oil such as sweet almond as by itself it's very sticky). You can also add in essential oils to make the oil more pleasing

When I was a teenager, we went on a family holiday to Eire. I can't remember where we were, as we were in a different venue every other day for 3 weeks, but we were staying in a stately home with a lovely lady and her sister. They had gone out for dinner with friends, and we were given free rein of the house (it was fabulous). After it was dark, someone rang the doorbell at the servants entrance. We all went to answer it! There were two men outside, and one asked 'Is herself in?' - My Dad explained that the ladies were dining out and could we take a message. The chap said "Well, we'll have to trust you to give herself the pochine" and it was handed over in a corked wine bottle. The next day, 'herself' asked my parents if they would like to taste it. My Mum's eyes watered and my Dad couldn't speak (he is teetotal normally!). I was allowed to dip my finger in to taste - it was dreadful! I can see where some people might think it could be beneficial for arthritis - more than one glass and you wouldn't feel any pain!
Alcohol rubs have been used for generations, so you could give it a try.

Hi, I live in Ireland and have never heard of that... of course poitin was illegal for a long time (not sure about the laws today - think you can get a form of it abroad) but I imagine that it is an old wives tale....
here nowadays tea is the cure for everything 🙂 although i don't recommend you rub a 'cup-o-rosie' on the legs!
