Hi

My partner and I have been together for nearly 2 years. She has an ongoing relationship with her ex due to a child. Her ex is very successful in business, and a very controlling man. With out going into too many details, he is a controlling bully and will not leave her alone. She is frankly frightened of him. I have had to take a back seat to all this in order to let her manage the situation, but it's just got worse. Just recently she has raised the game, she is determined to "win" as she puts it, win what I don't know, but whatever it is she is never going to beat this man.

She recently read an article on Stockholm Syndrome in relationships and identified with it, I have to say I agree. At the same time she has now withdrawn to fight the fight with him, she has pushed me away, with the old "I need space statement" and has now fallen out with her long term best buddy. She is now totally alone in the middle of this. Now I know that I have to stand back, Get off her back, Get out of her way Get on with your life, I can't help her, she despite reading the article is in denial and thinks she can "win" and control this man, she needs to loose and crash and burn. The question I have is, "At what point do I step back in" Too soon and I enable her, too late and, well, what?

Any advise?

RE: Stockholme Syndrome

hello,

hope you and your partner are better..i have only joined recently and i know you posted this ages back and unfortunately you had no replies..
i am no experts on relationship, but i just think you should sit her down and tell her to listen to you for 5min,and tell her to realize what all this is doing to her ,to you ,to your relationship...there is a life out there for the two of you to live and lots of lovely things to come ..its up to her then what she decides to do...i know is easy said, and you might even have already tried that..but i hope you sort it out..take care..mon97
