hi there...

soon i will begin volunteering as a reflexologist at a community drug and alcohol project, working with people living with and recovering from heroin, crack and alcohol addiction. there is also quite a few hep c sufferers too. any advice re: specific treatment points/techniques, ways to deal with situations which may arise, or just useful tips would be greatly appreciated. i have only recently qualified, but do have some experience of addiction problems within my family so am not completely 'green'!

any ideas gratefully received..

thanks, katie 🙂

Hm.

My Reiki Master is a therapist for a community drug and alcohol team. He told me that some of the addicts who are sex workers have never been touched in a way that is not either threatening or sexual, so it may be that just holding the feet (or hands) may be the limit of what your clients are prepared to tolerate. Maybe just start with that and see if you can then progress to a massage, then after a while you may get them to tolerate some work on the head/solar plexus...

Good luck!

Drug addictions generally have emotional roots and reflexology
may really help. There are clear and efficient schemes to not only
support but really heal addictions, but in Su-jok, which is reflexology
in essense.
