Heard this on the radio the other day and found it rather amusing.

The question was `what household applicance have you used for something other than for which it was intended?`

Someone had added too much pepper to their dinner so decided to vacuum away the excess. In doing so, he sucked a load of mashed potatoe up the clearner 😀

Not quite the same but we had a household incident many years ago. I bought my husband a new rotary mower. These were very popular way back when.

It was electric with wheels and a blade that spun round to cut the grass. He unwrapped it and why I don't know, but took it into the bedroom to try it out. He switched it on holding it above the floor, it worked well. Then he placed it on the bed. What he didn't realise was the blade was still spinning round although it was switched off so therefore ripped my precious bedspread to pieces.....I have often reminded him of this incident.

I once read a story about the fire brigade, called out to rescue a kitten that had fallen down a drain, asking the owner for their vacuum cleaner. They then also borrowed a sock which they put over over the end of the elephant's trunk extension thingy and used that to suck the kitten out of the drain without it disappearing into the cleaner! It was apparently unharmed 🙂

I use my cafetiere to make stuff other than coffee. I chop up ginger, throw that in with a couple of teaspoons of honey and add hot water. Pushing the metal thing down stops all the bits of ginger floating to the top.

I've used my hairdryer to defrost food (not recommended), dry out a cast on my ankle that got wet and warm up an almost empty tube of foundation so a bit more came out!

Other than that....

Cafetiere use sounds good.

I have used the hairdryer to unwrinkle clothes that got a bit squashed in the cupboard, works reasonably well but not as good as pressing.

I've used my computer as a punch-bag.

Hi All

Well this doesn't come under the heading, but whenever I drop food on the floor my cat eats it off the floor.

Saves me having to pick it up - he does a good job.

🙂 x

1. When I lived in Australia, as a student, decades ago - we used to keep an old vacuum cleaner in the kitchen. The house (all student houses in fact) had a problem with cockroaches - they come out when it is dark. So, every time we went into the kitchen in the evening we'd turn on the light and dozens of cockroaches would scatter. We'd use the vacuum cleaner to suck them up. After a few weeks we had no more cockroaches.

2. When I found out my husband (long since ex-husband) had cheated on me I used his toothbrush to clean the toilet. Toothbrush served two purposes: cleaned those hard to get places under the ledge, and provided 15 years of satisfaction whenever I recall watching him brush his teeth the following morning.

Ava x
