Man's law - i went against it today....

but moral law was correct....

i had to help someone - and i did something i shouldnt have (without getting into too much detail) but i would do it again because it saved this person so much more time than recreating what had been corrupted....but i had to do somethings that conflicted with man's law...

i dont feel guilty - but i could lose my job if it were found out what i did....at least i think so - because it goes against work ethics....

i did what i felt was the right thing - and in the end i am still going through the work ethic portion as if i didnt do what i did...to see how far it goes - if it gets fixed that way....

did i do the right thing?

thanks

Ada

RE: Moral Ethics / Work Ethics

Blimey!

Its hard to say because (understandibly) your post is so criptic........

I hope you dont get into trouble tho.

It sounds like you did the right thing for you-and you said you'd do it again so you must have felt strongly about what you did and it being the right decision for you and your own morals....

Tx

RE: Moral Ethics / Work Ethics

yea - sorry - cant say what i did or what was involved....but i spoke to my supervisor

he told me he has seen 'good techs' attempt the same thing, and give up...so he was proud of what i did....and told me that i followed protocol by doing what i had to do in helping the customer...

so i feel better!

a big *whew* was in order for that one!

i just posted this to find out if anyone else had ever faced a problem at work - and had to choose what was right, and what was right at work to get the job done.....would they follow thier own morals, or follow work ethics?

RE: Moral Ethics / Work Ethics

i agree with Trinityx.. i'm racking my brains trying to fathom out what you did..?

all i can say is that if you felt in your heart that you were doing the right thing then it must be right.. you wouldn't have done it otherwise.. and the key is that you said you don't feel guilty about it, so don't.. and try not to worry..

i'd rather have morals myself.. 😉

ali xx

EDIT to say that i was distracted half way through typing that and by the time i got it posted you'd beat me to it..

still think you did the right thing.. 🙂

RE: Moral Ethics / Work Ethics

Ive done things I thought were right by exiting a job where my life was being made a total living nightmare, the stories I could tell you about that one.

[color="#9900cc"]I'm not sure about what your supervisor said about "good techs ..." presumably you're not a tech and did something unexpected? I can possibly guess what you did but won't. However, as for man's law - you've passed the responsibility to your supervisor now.

As for moral law, you are at peace with yourself (apart from the man law v moral issue) and you wouldn't have been at peace if you hadn't done it. So you've done the thing that was right for you.

No, so far I haven't had this dilema at work. I have had it sometimes in respect of running a Youth Club where certain men decreed that all confidences should be relayed to the parents and I didn't. I repected the teenager's rights to privacy. But that's a whole other story!!

RE: Moral Ethics / Work Ethics

Sorry about being so cryptic about my answers - its just i cant say what it was i did, as i thought it was illegle - and thought i could get into serious trouble....

I am a tech - but i just started in the position not too long ago, and cannot afford to lose my job as I am the sole bread-winner at the mo

i felt confident that no matter what - if i do the right thing i will be rewarded in the end - and maybe not in this life but another....

thanks for letting me express myself! even if it does sound a bit like a puzzle..

Ada
