Hi,

Im thinking about getting a hair tattoo to bring my hairline down and cover up baldness.
It is still fairly new technology so I don't know what people (women esp.) think of them.

What's your verdict?

Nothing wrong with a bald head. Be proud of who you are.

So you don't style your hair or wear any make up?

I am a permanent makeup artist and have done some hair tattooing.

It doesn't age well. All tattoos fade and become off color over time. The sun is your biggest enemy. After that is washing. To keep it close to the color of your hair you would have to get it done every year at least.

It would not look natural and you would grow to hate it. But guess what? It's a tattoo so it won't go anywhere. It will just be fading away for years 🙁

Then you will be looking for someone to remove it and that will cost 10 times what it cost to have it done.

The only time I would do it, would be it someone had thinning hair and wanted some hairs tattooed under, as a background for their real hair. But even then...it doesn't age well.

Believe me it doesn't age well.

Yes I do but not that often. My hair falls out if I add masses of products to it, so its gets washed, dried and plaited generally. I don't go to hairdressers because they cover hair in allsorts which for me looks awful, feels awful and causes me pain and hair loss. I don't even use conditioner nowadays.

While I'm not against tattooing as it is up to the individual, it is a huge decision and as has been said, tattooing is permanent and fades and as your hair and head change over the years you would then have lots of maintenance so you may regret doing it.

My husband is bald and has been since his early twenties, No he wasn't overly happy that he lost his hair at such a young age, he now shaves his head where there is hair to even it up and it limits him looking old and I much prefer it that way, the one time he allowed the hair to grow I really didn't like it and I thought it aged him beyond his years.

With this procedure you can remove it without scarring and the ink isnt meant change (go green or blue etc like normal tattoos). some people who had it done 3-4 years back are still happy with it apparently.

Anyways what do people make of the look (in the examples)?

thanks

From the comfort of my monitor they look like amazing transformations. How it is in the flesh is another matter.

If I were in my 20s and receding like those guys, then I'd consider it more carefully. Right now, in my 40s with some receding hair, I just keep it short with clippers.

I notice when my hair is freshly clipped, girls like to play with my hair* so how they'd react to a tattoo (which is ink under skin) I don't know.

*-maybe I should get my pubic hair shaved. 😀

I personally prefer men to be natural, whether bald or otherwise 🙂

It's just like women getting their eyebrows tattooed. At first it will look fine but over the years, the color changes or fades. Just like my aunt, it turned bluish or greenish and it doesn't look natural at all and it made her look older. If your baldness is affecting your confidence, you can go to a medical professional and ask what's causing your hair to fall off and what you can do about it. Personally, I like men who are natural. 🙂

not really, there they are replicating longer hair (eyebrow length)
here they are replicating very very short hair.
You cant replicate long hair with a tattoo very well for obvious reasons.
Normally tattoos go in 7 layers. these are 2 layers hence no scarring if ever removed.

It's just like women getting their eyebrows tattooed. At first it will look fine but over the years, the color changes or fades. Just like my aunt, it turned bluish or greenish.

these type dont turn blue or green. the owners one has lasted 10 years

you can go to a medical professional and ask what's causing your hair to fall off and what you can do about it.

there's no cure for baldness

Personally, I like men who are natural. 🙂

fair enough, but in all cases? I particularly thought the first one made a HUGE improvement.

*-maybe I should get my pubic hair shaved. 😀

just dont use a razor!

Orgonic - sounds like you have already made the decision. However, if you are hoping to lower the hair line, will you end up chasing the hair line if you lose more hair elsewhere on your head?

I would like to ask - are you dark-skinned? Afro-carib? Asian? I think the tattooing may look OKish on a younger, darker skin, but not on a Caucasian skin.

I looked at the links - have to say that I didn't really like any of them.

Nope. This is part of my research- to try and establish what people think of the look (particularly women.)

They would also cover areas likely to thin in the future.

White.

Could you elaborate? Do you think they look fake? Do you think they look worse than the previous shot?
The woman at work said 'ooo no I dont like them'..then I showed her what they looked like previously and she said '(the new look) is much better'... well which is it I asked? she said yeah they clever. im personally still unsure about them. One thing I am sure on- bald looks rubbish. No 'framing of the face' (that seems to be the phrase).

I'd ask to see their previous customers' work. If they're any good, then they'd be happy to introduce you to them.
