Hi Guy's .
We are brought up In this world experiencing the love of our parents and we associate what love Is through that experience . We have relationships later on In life and we experience a different kind of love with a partner . You can’t really compare the love of your mother with the love you have with a lover . You love your pet dog but you will put the love of your children before your pet . You then can experience the love of what you are and you realize the love that you had for your parents your husband your children and your goldfish Is not what love Is . Emotional love Is not love - we just think and feel that - that's what love Is because It’s filtered and expressed via our senses . Love Is beyond sense . . You don’t need to be emotional connected to another In order “to love” although many can relate to “only emotional love” and It’s totally understandable . If someone Is not expressing loving emotions towards another then they automatically will feel unloved .
Any thoughts on love . . anyone? How many ways can you express love .
If you are In expression of real love (whatever that Is) will you then love thy neighbour the same as you would your child?

Hi Nice,
Love your avatar - right up my street! 🙂
To me, all love comes from God, who is Love Itself (as your avatar says) we simply reflect it. I so admire those people who just radiate unconditional love for everyone - you can just see it and feel it.
I believe that the Eskimaux have 100 terms for snow - well, I guess they need them! The Hebrews used 11 terms for love in the OT (and 144 names for God!)
In like manner, the ancient Greeks had 4 words for love (which to me, seem to cover it all). Not being able to speak Greek, it would be interesting to know which context was being described when 'love' is used in the New Testament.
I do know that the translators of the King James Bible, who were rather prudish, were stumped about how to translate agape - the highest form of love for God and all mankind. As I said, they were rather prudish and didn't want to use the word "love" in
I Cor 13, so used "charity" instead, which doesn't work at all!
It's late so I've cheated and copied from Wiki:
* Agápe (????? agáp?[1]) means "love" (unconditional love) in modern day Greek, such as in the term s'agapo (?'?????), which means "I love you". In Ancient Greek, it often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of "true love" rather than the attraction suggested by "eros". Agape is used in the biblical passage known as the "love chapter", 1 Corinthians 13, and is described there and throughout the New Testament as sacrificial love. Agape is also used in ancient texts to denote feelings for a good meal, one's children, and the feelings for a spouse. It can be described as the feeling of being content or holding one in high regard.
* Éros (???? ér?s[2]) is passionate love, with sensual desire and longing. The Modern Greek word "erotas" means "intimate love;" however, eros does not have to be sexual in nature. Eros can be interpreted as a love for someone whom you love more than the philia, love of friendship. It can also apply to dating relationships as well as marriage. Plato refined his own definition: Although eros is initially felt for a person, with contemplation it becomes an appreciation of the beauty within that person, or even becomes appreciation of beauty itself. Plato does not talk of physical attraction as a necessary part of love, hence the use of the word platonic to mean, "without physical attraction." Plato also said eros helps the soul recall knowledge of beauty, and contributes to an understanding of spiritual truth. Lovers and philosophers are all inspired to seek truth by eros. The most famous ancient work on the subject of eros is Plato's Symposium, which is a discussion among the students of Socrates on the nature of eros.
* Philia (????? philía[3]) means friendship or brotherly love in modern Greek. It is a dispassionate virtuous love, a concept developed by Aristotle. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. In ancient texts, philos denoted a general type of love, used for love between family, between friends, a desire or enjoyment of an activity, as well as between lovers.
* Storge (?????? storg?[4]) means "affection" in ancient and modern Greek. It is natural affection, like that felt by parents for offspring. Rarely used in ancient works, and then almost exclusively as a descriptor of relationships within the family. It is also known to express mere acceptance or putting up with situations, as in "loving" the tyrant.

And here are a couple of may favourite quotes about divine Love (both by Mary Baker Eddy)
[COLOR="Blue"] The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space. That is enough!
To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death.

Hi Judy .
Nice to meet you and thanks for your Input .
Yes I would say God or what we are Is love . Love Is all there Is . Love Is at the route of all experiences even sufferings .
I would also say that It will depend on how much an Individual Is In expression of the self will reflect upon how much unconditioned love one can emit .
So what Is It that stops an individual from expressing unconditional love?
An open question to all .
So what Is It that stops an individual from expressing unconditional love?

Negativity - in its broadest sense.
Hi Judy .

Love is all we are at the core, so its only natural that we yearn for it, have a natural affinity for it and want to receive/give it
The love we commonly speak of ( even the one that is love for God, etc )is still love of mind. We do have an experience of it no doubt, but its like small glimpse.
When there is duality in the love like 'I and You', 'I and my child', 'I and God'. When the 'other' is present then love is just the one side of the coin. In time it will swing into something less than love. Hence love-hate, love-anger, love-demands, love/posession keep playing out.
Love of two has something inherently lacking in it. because one is trying to love the other. The folly is in the gap that lies between one and the other.
That gap momentarily diminishes in over whelming joy of love but retains its presence once that moment of ecstasy is gone. When there is a separation, there are two, there will be conditions, expectations, differences because thats how two people relate.
unconditional love is so desirable, because it is not a real experience as such, hence the lure of it...
Untill the sense of separation remains, there is no true love, only a semblance of love, but not true love. When the lover dies and only beloved remains then only love remains.
Clap of one hand is true love.

Hi Caroline .
Negativity doesn't help that's for sure . 🙂
I agree jnani . Thanks for your thoughts .
Just to add a few similar thoughts . . .

Whilst what we are Is experiencing what we are within mind dual love so to speak plays Its part where It seems Instinctive for one to love another or Interact with another whilst retaining separate Identities . Within our mindful experience we can mistake what Is love from what are our needs . One can seemingly love what Is not real . So we start to at a certain point realize that we cannot love another until we love the self and when we love the self theres a realization that there Is no other to love . The hate, anger, possessiveness are only reflections of a lack of self love . It seems to be a common trend for many to keep on looking outside of the self for love when experiencing a sense of lack or a sense of separation from what we are .

When an Individual In essence tastes unconditional love there will be no-one present to love unconditionally and no-one present to taste it . Like you say for unconditional love to be an experience there needs to be someone experiencing . So If an individual wants to personally experience unconditional love they will be chasing there own tail . When an Individual reaches the state of unconditional love what we are will be In a state of being that Is perhaps Impossible to maintain whilst experiencing physicality / duality . Perhaps there always needs to be a minimal attachment to having an Identity even for the masters whilst experiencing human form .
