I'm flying out to Canada on Sunday just for a week. It's not a holiday, I'm going out there for a number of reasons, some family and some business related. I know I'm going to be rushing around while there and I have a lot to do tomorrow including taking the pets to the kennels etc. So, I took today and tomorrow off work. Tomorrow isn't really an issue as my wife will be home and we'll get a few things done together. The reason I took today off was partly to relax before the business of next week plus because I've not been booking clients in for that week, the weeks after I get back are booked solid.

Now here's something that probably sounds like an odd question..... what on earth do you do with a day off? I've spoken to my bank and the Inland Revenue about a couple of things, washed some things we're taking to Canada, booked a long weekend in Greece, booked a hotel for a weekend away, walked the dog, tidied the house and garden, posted on here a few times but now I am bored ****less! The only time I normally book a day off is at weekends to spend time with my wife or because I have lots of things I need to do, neither of these apply today and I seem to half spent half the day bored and wishing the time away! I wish I had gone to work now (although admittedly I love my work).

Hi

What a luxury a whole day off, i think you have done more work on your day off then some people do at work. Have you not got a book you have wanted to read or just sit in an armchair and listen to your fav album, get on a bike and have a ride or even a swim. I'm a part time therapist full time mum and i love the odd hour i have when i can do these things but i also like to just sit in the peace and quite with a large mug of tea.

Enjoy your break

Read a good book I read a lot anway but have done some today.
Play golf I wish I posted this earlier! I've recently been thinking about taking up golf and I live almost right next to a golf course! Duh!
Go for a run I do that every morning with my dog (I live in the Peak District so we go up in the hills)
Make love Good idea but not so much fun on your own 🙁
Write a poem Hmmmm
Go swimming I go lane swimming twice a week
Hit the gym Will be going with my wife when she gets home
shopping Locally no use and if I go into the city I'll end up going to work
Walk on the beach Really wish I posted this earlier, too far to drive this late in the day but I could have driven over to North Wales, I love it there!
Climb a tree Not sure the tree would enjoy that plus I'd look really silly at my age if I got stuck!
Visit the library Used to own a bookshop and I collect rare books so my house looks a bit like a library
Have a flying lesson. Had a couple before, I enjoyed it but decided not to go for my pilots license as I wouldn't have time to clock enough hours flying to keep the license.

Thanks for those, there are a couple there that although it's a bit late now I will maybe do them next time I get a day off. Actually, I want another day off now to take golf lessons. Actually, I think I will walk round to the golf club now and enquire. Thanks again!

What date are you back from Canada - I need to book in to see you in Manchester!

Days off - I tend to not make the best use of them!

just a thought whilst I am reading this Bannick

Hi Graham,

I'm back on Sunday 21st but I've no available appointments until w/c 29th and that week is a bit tight. If you give me a call I'll get you booked in.

just a thought whilst I am reading this Bannick

are you a workaholic by any chance, and if so, why?

I used to work in commission based jobs so being a workaholic was kind of expected. Nowadays, I just love what I do (hypnotherapy) to the degree that my wife claims I can't even class it as work. What didn't really help is that I went out for a meal last night after work, drank a bit too much wine and went to bed really early (for me anyway) and I'm one of those annoying people who don't need much sleep so I got up at 5am.

Thanks again Oakapple! I've just booked my first golf lesson! Even better, the pro at the Golf club I live by teaches a method called "instinctive golf" which looks really interesting. I'd be interested to know if any golfers on here have learned through this method. Golf never used to appeal to me until I kept hearing clients telling me about their golf and saw how passionate they were about it but I still didn't get round to trying it out or looking into lessons. I'm so glad I posted this thread on here now!

Apart from when I'm meditating, I find I can't sit and do nothing. Even things that seem quite energetic to many people, I find relaxing as even though the body is active, the mind can easily slip into an altered state of consciousness.
