one last thing 😀 I disagree with what you say about NOS too. All awarding organisations now write their quals to conform to NOS (some dont police their schools to ensure they are teaching it, but thats another matter). The colleges and universities we are working with are also making changes to their own courses to ensure NOS are included. Obviously there are those who are still blinded by the stat regs waffle, who are too arrogant to think they need to change, however, they will see that they will all have to fall in line at some point. Word gets around this industry very quickly.

Hi Richard,

Surely the above and my comment, 'Yes NOS etc have been introduced but no one pays a blind bit of notice' mean the same? They may write the quals to the standard, but if they dont enforce that standard and ensure those teaching deliver to that standard then I would argue that they are only paying lip service to the NOS. Doing just enough.

Its a difficult situation. You will know more about this than me, but financially what do the awarding bodies gain from schools running their courses? I'm sure you know where I'm going with this. If more schools/TPs run their qualifications and they gain more financially then how enthusiastic are they going to be about policing those schools. Is it quantity over quality for financial gain?

Everything that you and others have put in place is fantastic. There is just one piece missing and that is an authority to deal with issues such as the above. It is quite apparent from both you and BGFL that at the moment PA's and TP's can pretty much do what they like because there is no one to kick their a*** when they step out of line.

It is very frustrating. I can see that it would be a very rewarding career but there are so many issues to be dealt with. It does makes me and probably others quite hesitant to get involved in. I have had problems right from the word go but there is no one in the industry to address those problems. That has to change.

In my opinion there is only one awarding organisation who doesnt police its schools enough. All other AOs work really well, they work with NOS, they police their schools, they assess their students.

As an example, one AO, turns over around £10million per annum, which should mean they can afford an army of assessors, but they dont! So, I believe you are right in this instance. As another example, I was never a fan of ITEC, however, without exception they have a team of assessors who go to each of their schools, and examine the students. This is how it should be. They refer (fail) students that dont make the grade, and if a school doesnt play to the rules - bye bye! Ofqual are there to police AOs, but like every other regulator we have seen - CNHC, HPC - FSA - I can go on - when you really really need them, they let you down!

Everything that you and others have put in place is fantastic. There is just one piece missing and that is an authority to deal with issues such as the above. It is quite apparent from both you and BGFL that at the moment PA's and TP's can pretty much do what they like because there is no one to kick their a*** when they step out of line. But there is never going to be anyone other than what there is now, which is Ofqual, Trading Standards, Courts etc etc. People think HPC are this all powerful body that will bring everyone to order, when that is just not true.

It is very frustrating. I can see that it would be a very rewarding career but there are so many issues to be dealt with. It does makes me and probably others quite hesitant to get involved in. I have had problems right from the word go but there is no one in the industry to address those problems. That has to change. I disagree, we are seeing more people than ever training as ST's, we are having record numbers of sports massage and sport & remedial massage practitioners upskilling to Sports Therapy, we are seeing record numbers of physiotherapists undertaking Sports Therapy courses. There must be a reason for this.

Just on a point about protection of public, going back to that, the SST are still trying to sell stat regs on the 'protection of public' ticket, but it just doesnt wash anymore. The public are no more protected by someone that is HPC registered than someone who isnt. There are always going to be good and bad in every field, and that is why we are protected by law - trading standards etc etc, that is why we have small claims courts, that charge £50 to sue someone, that is why we have 'no-win-no- fee' solicitors who take on cases where a member of the public has been treated badly by a therapist.

And lastly, you will find that as many BSc ST grads dont get into/leave the industry, as there are that enter it, so we arent inundated with 00's every year. There is no conspiracy why there arent many involved in CNHC, the fact is, most of the university leaders are very close to SST, and they DONT let anyone else in to talk to their students. Simple! The students are then brainfogged with stat regs rubbish, but as I said a recent posting, some of the universities are seeing past this now. I have been asked to a number of universities to talk about the industry, and they will be told it as it is.
