Of course there is great concern about the immigration issue that requires better handling to allay the fears of those now branded as racists. However, the current rise in hate crime is deeply worrying and unacceptable, would you not agree?
Absolutely Amy I love Britain to be a country of freedom, equality. Just as we most do.
Worry does not help.
Infact worry adds to fear that is already there. Worry does have quite a contrary effect.
'Unacceptable' Does not help either. Home office, PM and just about everyone can say it is unacceptable, what does that mean?
There is an underneath energy of unease justified or otherwise, that Should be ideally rectified by those who claim to be the leaders and running the country. Politicians ought to be full of insight, but mostly that is not the case

Unacceptable = something has to be done about it - that the situation needs addressing.
It is natural/a humane reaction to worry (show concern) about this heightened hate crime trend .... what is the alternative? To be blase about it? Also such an emotion can be the initial trigger that galvanises people into protesting and we have seen a LOT of that since the referendum result.

What is the alternative?
We should start a new thread. I am sure there is plenty that can be said and some practical steps that we can all take

I regard going on a protest as a practical step. I am encouraged by the massive protest response to leaving EU.

You reckon that is practical and will serve some purpose?

Attending a protest event is being proactive - nailing your colours to the mast, standing up to be counted. Such protests often get broadcast on the news e.g. banners are read by the public and those in power. Protesting is better than just complaining about the situation. What had you in mind then? Something more radical?

I hardly ever have an action plan...my inner response to any problem, personal or global is to sit with me, in pristine peace, oblivious of the problem.
I wouldn't mind if you rolled your eyes and laughed your head orf! I have a daft way of solving problems, I know!
"Unacceptable" means "I will not accept it".
Practical? Are you wearing a safety-pin?

So - pretty much the same response as the 'Leave' politicians. Except, of course, that they are being paid (a lot) to have a plan and you aren't.;)

A passive response may work fine in your own life but, politically (i.e. on this issue), that cuts no ice as I am sure you know.

Ever Heard of a wee man called Gandhi?
Ever Heard of a wee man called Gandhi?
Well Gandhi did more than sit back passively didn't he?!!!
Civil disobedience is not the same as being passive.

Gandhi sat quietly a lot on his spinning wheel, had extensive periods of silence, then when he was moved to act he acted...slightly different from your take on both action and passivity...and plans.
Talking of plans....so far all politicians have great plans and look at the mess!...and get paid for making a pig's ear too!
Plans are overrated, but naive public is impressed by presence of it and appalled by absence of one.....if only the so called plans had any consequences...
If you can detect passivity into my stance. We are both (well three of us with Crowan's little input) having a dialogue which is really a monologue....it happens.
It would be interesting to see, if the referendum were held again now (a week later) how many would vote the same way considering the upheaval, politically and the worldwide response and shock.
