On that basis, then the person/people responsible were the Argentinian government for instigating the invasion in the first place. All the UK government did was to send people to defend their people (and land).
I admit war is a much more complex issue than I can grasp. I can't focus on it long enough to make much sense of it because it repels me SO much! Ultimately, those involved all had blood on their hands in my opinion.
I do not know about you but I remember the continuous strikes caused by trade unions. The unions ruined many a small business and where proud of it. It was a standing joke " all out" over something as trivial as soap in the toilets or who "twanged " the string for painting the line on a ships hull.
.
Actually you remember the news stories. There have been plenty of articles and books written about what really happened and not what sold newspapers.
As regards council houses. The ones who where in one stayed so they did not become part of the problem. Thatcher wanted people to stand on their own two feet and become less dependent on the state. I do not know what happened to the money raised from selling council houses. Whether it went into central funds or was claimed by local councils, but It is up to the local councils to build council houses, traditionally I suppose from rents of existing houses.
As far the Falklands. I don't think that those islanders would see it your way. They just knew that they were being invaded and were grateful for anyone who could defend their freedom.
Freedom does usually come at a price. You can't moralise away a canon shell.
The Falklanders would probably have been happier to keep full rights as British Citizens - it was, in part, the withdrawal of those rights that persuaded Argentina that the UK was losing interest in the islands.
Thatcherism was and is a reversal and rejection of the Post-war Consensus - the welfare state, nationalised industry and regulation of the economy, which is reaching its logical conclusion in the destruction of the NHS. This wasn't about 'people standing on their own two feet' or being 'less dependant on the state'. The welfare state was funded by taxes and National Insurance - funded, in fact, by the people who used it.
Local councils were specifically forbidden to use the money to build more houses.

No I do not base my facts on news stories. I was there, I lived through that 3 day week period. The world is full of so called experts. The only trouble is they usually see events through their own biases.

In that case it is unsupportable. The UK has an aging population and the revenue from retirees on state pensions can certainly not cover their social costs.

Bear in mind that, since the age where someone can now claim a state pension has been moved to be later, i.e. people are having to work longer to get there now.

And it may get longer still. Many young people do not even believe that they will get a state pension. But could we afford a Greek system where if memory serves me right they can retire at 50. The EU may be working to extend that to be in line with other EU country's. Everything has to be paid for there are no free meals.

I'm sorry I think I got my topics here mixed up. I thought it was about not affording to keep immigrants here because of our depleting welfare system. I was trying to show that people ARE paying taxes for longer now (i.e. into the system) due to the fact that the goalpost has been moved with retirement age. (I admit to not knowing how great or little this would impact on the financial funds available...does anyone though?)

It was, as it was set up, perfectly sustainable. Since then, successive governments have cut top rates of tax. Sadly, the Welfare State was never really supported by the powers that be.
The far right of the political spectrum is working towards a situation where people pay taxes yet receive nothing in return. And that trend was started before Thatcher but she sped it up, and it's been carried on ever since by both Labour and Conservative governments. There will be no help for the disabled or the elderly. Child poverty will continue to rise. More people will die. We'll be back towards workhouses and poorhouses.

I admit that social responsibility was a strong reasons for staying in the EU. They seem to have a better social identity than us. I certainly do not agree with the "blow you jack, I'm alright" attitude that capitalism seems to foster.
Brexit could be delayed until late 2019...

That'll upset a few people.
Whatever happens will upset someone.
These are English camps. The SNP, the Irish Worker's Party, Sinn Féin, Plaid Cymru - they may well have other ideas. Independence, for example.
