I don't think that any prime minister would be allowed to block commerce.
.

A Prime Minister with a majority can do whatever the party thinks will win votes.

As far as EU migrants and refugees the social impact on a country is similar, irrespective of the cause.

But one is affected by leaving the EU and the other isn't.

The party and the prime minister will do whatever is needed to stay in power and if the conditions of Brexit prove unpopular with the electorate or Britains financial interests them anything can happen.

Well, a new Prime Minister, now. Let's wait and see what happens!

Yes I did have that afterthought. Theresa May looks like she has a heart though, i.e. not cut from the same cloth.

What gives you that idea? She:

Voted very strongly for increasing the rate of VAT.

Voted strongly against the hunting ban.

Voted very strongly for the Iraq war.

Voted for raising England’s undergraduate tuition fee cap to £9,000 per year.

Voted moderately for replacing Trident.

Voted moderately for a stricter asylum system.

Wow...chill out! I never said I was a Tory.

Anyway, that all pales in the wake of the havoc that Thatcher wreaked e.g. weakening the Trade Unions and making many homeless due to chronic shortage of affordable housing with her 'Right To Buy' scheme....not to mention the hundreds of deaths in the Falklands war...

In comparison, Theresa May is a bit like a fluffy bunny to that legacy! So far.....

Goodness did Mrs Thatcher really start the Falkland's war, and where people actually forced to buy their council homes. And all those who bought shares in utilities, did they really have to sell their shares to the French at a profit and then moan about the high utility prices.

I do not know about you but I remember the continuous strikes caused by trade unions. The unions ruined many a small business and where proud of it. It was a standing joke " all out" over something as trivial as soap in the toilets or who "twanged " the string for painting the line on a ships hull.
Thatcher did make mistakes but the public are just as much to blame. They wanted everything for nothing. We ended up on a 3 day week because of strikes and interruptions to services. How on earth can a country compete under those conditions. No wonder the Chinese prospered.

I didn't say Thatcher started the Falkland's war; it was known as her war though. In the fighting that followed, 655 Argentine and 255 British servicemen lost their lives, as did three Falkland Islanders. If you had a relative that died as a consequence of this war you might view her differently. War is just legalised murder.

With the 'Right To Buy', Thatcher was keen to promote private ownership. At best it was short sighted i.e. more council houses were not built to compensate those waiting to live in council houses, hence the escalation on those made homeless. Absolutely shameful!

Admittedly the Trade Unions were getting out of hand but Thatcher wanted to do away with them altogether and almost succeeded. She is not interested in the rights of workers.

Her policy of cutting costs got her labelled the 'milk snatcher' for abolishing universal school milk.....I could go on but will leave it here. Not for nothing was she so unpopular to those who were not privileged.

As regards council houses. The ones who where in one stayed so they did not become part of the problem. Thatcher wanted people to stand on their own two feet and become less dependent on the state. I do not know what happened to the money raised from selling council houses. Whether it went into central funds or was claimed by local councils, but It is up to the local councils to build council houses, traditionally I suppose from rents of existing houses.

As far the Falklands. I don't think that those islanders would see it your way. They just knew that they were being invaded and were grateful for anyone who could defend their freedom.
Freedom does usually come at a price. You can't moralise away a canon shell.

.....but you can hold the person accountable for deciding it can be used i.e. responsible for deaths! I know war is complex but, ultimately, it is legalised murder. Let's not lose sight of that very ugly truth.

I forgot to address this point. Yes it was clear what her intention was but she was also instrumental in instigating cutbacks, so this would have prevented local councils from having the option of building more council houses wouldn't it?

On that basis, then the person/people responsible were the Argentinian government for instigating the invasion in the first place. All the UK government did was to send people to defend their people (and land).
