Isn't it truely amazing that a minority of people can cause so much destruction, people losing their homes, businesses also large shops.

Also causing fear across the capital. Plus businesses must be losing money as we in London are told not to venture into large shopping areas.

Yet the majority are held to ransom by the overall small but deadly group of criminals and no one it appears can do anything to stop it.

The police are hopeless. We will all pay more because of the insurance payout and finding homes for those that have lost them.

Why don't they get the army in with water cannons to control these idiots.

The police are only "hopeless" as the days of tear gas and rubber bullets are sadly gone, apparently that was "dangerous". With regard to the army and water cannons, frankly the use of live ammunition on this scum would save law abiding, tax paying citizens a small fortune compared to the cost of the short prison sentences our ridiulous legal system would dish out to these low lifes.

The part that got me was the claim they are "taking back taxes"! As if these low life scum have ever paid any, or put anything into their community!

Also, it's not just the general cost to businesses, these people have destroyed people's homes and small businesses, as well as the damage to larger businesses and the knock on effect to the business community in general.

With all the technology at hand, why can't the authorities take the mobile telephone comms 'off line' - nearly every rioter I've seen on my screen is holding a mobile either to talk to other looters, or to film what they are doing????? I know that the 'authorities' have different comms channels that they could use. Unbelievable. Not sure what the army could achieve - where are the police water canons?

I think the nature of the riots make water Cannon impractical because the rioters are moving from area to area. There are more riots than equipment.

Mobile phones can be jammed and the police do have the technology, but can it be effective for such large areas.

There is no political reason for this, it's just straight agitation and opportunism that has got out of hand. Where agitation comes from should be investigated. It has been shown previously that drugs dealers stir up unrest to protect their areas form the police. It could be agitated by some disenfranchised media barron to hit back at the government. But with the nature of these things, it's probably very complex. I'm sure the will be a public inquiry to investigate the cause.

I do think that communities under threat must be poroactive in stopping these riots. The police and emergency services can never be big enough to deal with these events. As for putting the troops on the streets, well if there are any available, it would feeding into the hands of every dictator in the world.

This has to be nipped in the bud, but the conseqences need to be understood, because it can go further out of control.

My husband has been saying this since before recession that he sees riots spreading all over the country because Stupid media will keep on flasing one random riot and the reports on the screen for millions to watch and be "inspired" to continue looting and plundering...
.
The way the first riot has been handled by media is totally irrisponsible. Flashing power of mind-less emotion. and where is our government? When it suits them they can with-hold and ban sensitive information (like in Iraq war and all other stupid wars we keep fighting, public never gets to know what really is going on). Was the first riot not sensitive enough information for safety and well being of the people of this countryl?? Did/could they not see it coming? IT was an easy guess that more and more ediots, scumbags will see opportunity to do exactly the same in their local retail parks.
It is an excellent example of one bad egg...but also of power of attention. but it is the job of govt to see things coming and media need a bullet in their head for broadcasting this repeatedly and making it bigger than it needed to be.The message is clear that govt can't do nothing, their actions are immune to any legal justice, purely because the vast number of culprits.

Then Millions of people tuning into this. How much fear and vibration of unsettle has been generated by broadcasting this round the clock? What people tune into becomes their reality.

Children... Are mirrors of what they see...
They respect and desire what they are conditioned to respect and desire...

I heard one chap on the radio saying he was sleeping with a knife under his pillow as he was in total fear that these rioters were going to break into his block of flats...

... so ...

what's the difference between the terror that these people are creating in people and the terror that terrorists create?

In terms of the law, shouldn't these people be treated as terrorists? They are creating terror after all (and have perhaps done more damage than some terrorists have achieved)?

I shall be sending Reiki and positive thoughts to the situations.

All Love and Reiki Hugs

I said a good while ago on here that because punishment in schools was stopped and breakdown of the family unit, teemage single parents everywhere etc., etc., that we were fast approaching the point of no return...we have arrived at that point.

Welcome the world of Mad Max - I wonder if do gooders everywhere are remotely aware of how their clever ideas have brought about this total anarchy.

Jeannie, hit the nail on the head. 😉

I thought it was very clever of the Police Commisioner to tell the parents/guardians to locate their young people at the start of the riots.
A hidden message......they are your responsibility.......start taking responsibility!!!!

We are not in the world of Mad Max, or in total anarchy.

I got up this morning and went to work, I wasn't mugged or robbed on the way to work. I had a day's trading, shared jokes with a few clients and shared some cuppas. Had a lovely stroll down the High Street at lunch time. One shop was celebrating its 100th birthday and were giving passers by a glass of bubbly and some birthday cake.

Is that the world of Mad Max? No. Is it total anarchy? No.

But the problem is that some cities have had act's of violence that are disgraceful. It has shocked the country to the core and is probably the biggest event of the year? Oh, no we forget the 1000s dying in Africa, those who are still homeless in Japan, and the 100s of other human tragedy. The rioters will go home, some will be punished, some victims livelihoods will be ruined, and the hungry will still starve.

But lets not live in fear because that is the route of dispare, when there are many good things going on. Just look at those who are doing voluntary in your community, most give up time without thanks. I know in our area that youth workers have been working flat out to keep kids occupied and off the street in response to the riots.

Time to get out of red top land and live in the real world because it is full of surprises.

Myarka

PS, perhaps we get a bit NIMBY about crime 😉

Is that really the answer?
To beat children during school years and point fingers at the single mothers?
Do you think that will ‘cure’ it?

Sure, yes parenting has a part to play... but come on, this problem is very broad and certainly more deep than just bad parenting, it’s over twenty years old and for some – its two generations long.
What I said earlier was not about parents, it was about our world, our society, our leaders, our industry captains, our laws and our law enforcers.

We live in a society that nurtures greed, applauds winning by any means necessary, deems cheating and lying as perfectly acceptable tools to achieve goals, positively rewards the avoidance of culpability and fashions £multi-million legal systems dedicated to the denial of personal responsibility – A sickening deterioration of the collective ‘mind’ of our society from the very top down. All of which is increasingly further compounded by our complicit acceptance of hypocrisy & abuse by those in positions to wield power over us... And just to put the cream on the cake – we actually even congratulate them on their skills when they successfully practise sophistry on us!:food-smiley-004:

Do you think this is invisible, do you think it has no 'drip, drip' poisoning effect?:(

It’s all around us and its reinforced everyday, everyday!! From Alan 'entertainment' Sugar's reward for liars and cheats to the video of the two looters outside debenhams with one saying to the other "let's go get some watches initt man" (read bush and blair with thier cronies et al saying "lets go get some oil initt man"... we just gobble it up don't we just:)

- From the seemly innocent (and in today’s world perfectly acceptable) remark of the footy commentator that says “Ohhh, he should’ve gone down and got himself a pen!” to Blair’s fist thumping insistence on the existence of WMDs...From expenses fraud to insider-trading, from embezzlements by ministers to cash for questions! – It has weaved itself into every facet and level of our society.

And then these awful riots and suddenly we’re all shocked and awed at the wanton disregard for property, for others, for the huge cost to the tax payer... we’re outraged at the looting of shops and fine goods – Why, where did the surprise come from?

...Because laughably through it all, (somewhere in the back of our minds) we’re aware that Gerald Kaufman got £8000 out of the taxpayer for a B&O Flat Screen TV (that’s looting for ya)... And during these terrible scenes in our city’s we’re watching the smarmy Hazel Blears explaining her outrage while telling us what’s right and wrong (the same Minister that swindled the public purse out of £18,000 on the profit from a flat... a flat that we the tax payer had been helping to fund = Looting is it not?)

All going on in a town or city near you with the backdrop of a global financial meltdown that was kicked off by fine respected institutions like Goldman Sachs who were lending to the sub prime mortgage like it was going out of fashion and then effectively betting on it collapsing (short-selling the subprime securities)- they made $4 billion in the first round (how many repossessed homes and wrecked families do you imagine that would represent) ... But as they already knew ‘greed is good’ and as the boss said “for there to be winners, there has to be losers”... So they meant it to happen, jeez they set it up to fail - just so they could bet on it failing! – The CEO’s bonus in his first year was $67.9 million (not such a great year for him that one).

But at least we’re safe eh? And to make us feel very very safe in our beds we have a police force where the head honcho uses a credit card (that we supply and pay for) – to buy champagne while shooting the breeze with the people we actually want him to investigate... however, when he’s investigated himself, the trustworthy public servant promptly up’s and leaves and goes to work for the people he was investigating (and buying champagne for)...

And while we’re talking of shooting (the breeze), is there much comfort to be gained from learning that when a member of our society is publicly executed in broad daylight by armed police, that they think it’s perfectly acceptable to lie and claim they were responding to shots aimed at them, and then to fabricate evidence (with one of their own bullets)... I mean just how stupid do they assume YOU are?
& should I be worried at their sheer arrogance in assuming they could do it... or more worried at our ability to place such simple minded thugs in charge of our safety and entrust them with carrying loaded semi-automatic firearms on our streets.:o

I gotta tell ya, I think if I was growing up today, I might’ve been tempted to run with a crowd (well jog) & throw perhaps a very small bit of brick in some general direction, at something... just maybe?;)

Is that referring to the news this week about the NPIA mis-using their credit cards? The NPIA are a quango set up to advise the police forces and move them towards working in consistent ways. It's not the police itself and they are not serving police officers (even if some of them may be ex-officers, I don't know). They don't do any investigating or suchlike as they're not a police force themselves.

Or are you referring to someone else?
