Previously in this forum I have mentioned the ongoing Uranus-Pluto transit of 2010-2016, which will be closest around 2012-2014. Previous Uranus-Pluto transits occured in the mid-1960s (hippies, black civil rights, Chinese Cultural Revolution) and mid-1930s (Nazism, Stalinism, Roosevelt's New Deal policy, and many less well-known revolutions).

The mood of radical change, sweeping away outworn institutions, was first displayed in 2010 with our own election (the coalition's policies are the most radical/extreme since WW2, going much further than Thatcher ever dared) and the violent mass protests of the students. In America we saw the growth of the extremist Tea Party Movement.

Now in 2011 we have already seen two popular uprisings in the Arab world against USA-supported dictatorships. The Tunisian dictatorship was soon overthrown, and in Egypt I have just heard that Mubarak has already left Cairo and is in the coastal resort of Sharm el Shaikh, from which he can be evacuated more easily if necessary.

Western govts, especially America, are terrified, because they have supported and financed Mubarak for 30 years. For all their talk of democracy and human rights, they actually prefer dictators, just as the British Empire preferred to deal with tribal chiefs and Indian rajahs rather than democratic movements. The reason for this is that its easier to bribe/blackmail/flatter one man, than to control a varied group.

Notice also how they constantly raise the bogeyman of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, ie Egyptians can maybe have a free election so long as they vote for the right people.

however, the two most important points from all this are

1) All power is actually in the hands of the people. They only lend it to governments, and can take it back any time they choose if they have the courage to act collectively. The forces of repression are always massively outnumbered.

2) Don't listen to the so-called "experts", cos half the time they don't have a clue. Two months ago, any "expert" on the Middle East, talking on the BBC, would say "Arabs have no interest in politics, they only respect a strong ruler, Mubarak is strong and will therefore stay in power". It was just the same in the 1980s before the fall of Communism- noone predicted it, least of all the "experts".

Oh yeah, we've constantly been reminded about the 'muslim' brotherhood throughout the whole thing. Problem is, with all the ridiculous and hyped up scaremongering that goes on in Europe and the US with regards to Muslims, it does make you wonder what the outcome will be...I SINCERELY hope that the West don't start trying to get al involved using the muslim brotherhood (scare mongering) as their reason. If they do, we are yet another step closer to the one world Government, or should that be the west dictates and everyone else must obey?!

Good post.

Pete,

Most revolutions get hijacked in the end. Like you say, they can vote but only for the "right" people (towing the line of US interests). The only example I can currently think of where the US and the West failed in their attempt of using a puppet and massive Western media propaganda in order to suppress the free will of the people, is Georgia and South Ossetia. And that was thanks to the decisive and somewhat ruthless action by Russia. Despite pissing and moaning and making every attempt at vilifying Russia in the media, the US could do sod all about it. But most of the time they win in the end. So I'm not celebrating yet. But let's not be all negative of course. We HAVE to believe that ordinary people can make all the difference, in what ever way. God speed to the Egyptians.

Oliver
