Yes and from that perspective, like other ministers I disagree with the Archbishop.

Well, there's one on Question Time on BBC1 right this minute who seems to be agreeing with him. Also the General Synod gave him a standing ovation the other day. So I expect ministers are, like us, divided on whether or not they agree with what the Archbishop said.

Are you sure you don't mean "incontenent":042:

I think you mean 'incontinent'. And I thought we were supposed not to be attacking one another any more.

Yes of course as you say they are divided. As they are over most things that constitute change.

I know that this thread has got heated but of course we all add to it by our replies. I am no better than anyone when it comes to that. But it is given back in what I hope is the manner in which it was given.

Not all of them.

Sorry, healistic, but that doesn't make sense. Either ministers are divided or they're unanimous.

Sorry, what don't you understand? I said that it would seem that ministers (in general) are divided (as to their opinion on the Archbishop's comments.) You said 'not all of them'. You can't have some that are divided and some that aren't. It's a tautology, I believe, or some other such figure of speech. I'm simply making a point about the fact that your post doesn't make sense. Do you get it now?

I think if you conducted a vox pop of the man in the street, you'd be proved wrong on this, V. Don't forget that a lot of people have interest in and opinions on subjects that they know nothing about. Or nothing more than the tabloids care to tell them.

Sunanda! You've inspired me with an idea for avoiding heated debate here on HP.

When appropriate, posts could end with 'I have interest in and opinions on subjects that I know nothing about, and I believe everything the tabloids tell me'. That way we'd all know where we stood, and a lot of stressful typing in a coloured, bold capitals with accompanying exclamation marks could be avoided.

Instead of adding to these posts some of us could just sit back bemused, shaking our heads at the monitor in disbelief (though this thread has made me do that a few times already).

You said:

Also the General Synod gave him a standing ovation the other day.

Which implied that all the delegates stood, my reply to that was simply that "Not all of them" gave him that standing ovation. which I removed as it was so obvious.

I now understand Barfundles head banging.
I would like to unequivocally apologise to Barafundle by simply adding::banghead:

:food-smiley-004: congratulations, barafundle, i believe you gone done found enlightenment - here of all places!! this is an opinion and interest that i have and know quite a lot about from finding out for myself, which some folk in this world dont seem to do, but yep, have lots to say on any given subject!!

so join me for a quiet pint over at that table and we can watch the rest unravel :p.

edit: can i just say, its kinda annoying when people edit their posts so that a bit that they say and is later quoted by another poster, is removed so no longer there... it gives the impression of making stuff up by the person quoting them.

now its :offtopic: oops from me :o.

If you think the tension's high now, just wait until the archbishop's opinions on flower arranging are discussed! Things would get really nasty.

DOH! Stop, stop, you'll hurt yourself!:o I simply didn't click that your 'not all of them' referred to the Synod's standing ovation rather than ministers being divided. Oh, the miscomprehensions of the written word! Please accept my sincerely humble apologies and go and put a cold compress on your forehead.:)

:rollaugh:

What's that old joke about the man who's banging his head being asked why he does it? His reply? 'Because it feels so good when I stop'.:)

Detachment is a good word, crystal rose. No need to get tense.
