RE: Sarah's Law?

Yes of course, and while you're down there........(sorry - old joke)

But, I know what you mean. Last Friday I was visiting my relative in a locked ward at the Paterson Centre, St. Mary's in Paddington. Someone was posted to 'watch my back' (paranoid schizophrenia). The good news is that smoking is still allowed in mental health wards.

Back to the thread. In our political system there is in theory, a seperation of power of the legislative, the executive and the judiciary to prevent abuse due to concentration of power. We live in a democracy and we all have the right to air our views so it is our right to campaign for change. Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, the maximum penalty for rape is life but judges are advised to reduce sentences because of overcrowding in prisons, but public opinion can change policy, so please, write letters, e-mail, telephone, demonstrate and hopefully there will be change.

Regards
Tucker

RE: Sarah's Law?

Can't recall the cases, but two this week have been given more reasonable sentances, possibly to distract usfrom the HO chaos? or to alter the opinion polls.

RE: Sarah's Law?

May i reply to this post, please forgive my english and grammer, having witnessed the effects of sexual abuse, both upon others (ex psych nurse) and myself at the hands of my father,i feel i can comment from all sides be it right or wrong, sarah's law as good as it seem's will IMO invoke violence and retributrion against both the guilty and the innocent...it is the innocent that concerns me most,i dont deny my feelings about these people..they cannot be cured..they remain manipulative both throughout their abuse and their treatment...chemical castration..does not stop the mind it stops the sex urge not the thoughts which is what drives these people in fact it can it can add a high to the whole thing (exploring more secretive ways) at present there is no cure ,despite what some high flying consultants may say,it is my belief the only solution is a life behind bars,at least this way we may be able to give our kids some form of protection, not ideal i agree, but do any of us have the solution, sorry to rant i could go on forever (lol) and yes humour is a coping mechanism,i use it all the time.....love n peace ...shirl

RE: Sarah's Law?

firstly i will admit that i have not read ALL the posts on this subject. so sorry to repeat what others have already said.
Now i work as a dinnerlady at my daughters school and the issue of disclosures has come up all dinnerladies now have to have a disclosure done (i have worked there a year without one and im new to the job!)
all cleaners at the school also have the disclosures done BUT BEFORE THE DINNERLADIES! WHO ACTUALLY WORK WITH THE KIDS!! how crazy is this???
secondly i was in a court battle with my ex partner over custody of our daughter after much to-ing and fro-ing majority care was given to him
my ex is a drinker and has a few unsavory "friends" now one of the neighbours has a stepson who is 12 years older than my daughter this stepson (P) is odd by any stretch of the imagination (what 15/16 year old wants to play with a 4/5 year old?) I WATCHED him when i was living there . my ex however didnt and saw it fine to go drinking in the house and allow my daughter to sit for long periods in Ps bedroom!!
turns out a friend says that P has been trying to kiss my daughter, police called, social services involved, ME NOT INFORMED!!! and daughter interogated my social workers! she says nothing happened but did it?how do i react not knowing if this boy is a problem or not? he regularly sits over the park watching kids on swings but he is not much more than a kid himself!!! (18 but has "problems")
also P family caused problems for my ex and his friends assaulted my ex on the way to pick my girl up from school! because they didnt like the allegations.

no i dont think sarahs law would help but i sure would want to be informed if there was a paedo in the area

also it seems that as far as justice stands it is more of a crime to steal or not pay your council tax than it is to rape whether that be a child or an adult!!
what has gone wrong in this world when crime against an organisation weighs over a the butchering and molestation of a child[&o]

RE: Sarah's Law?

Livvy,
Absolutely agree.
But tax evasion is just that even though the lady was making a very moral stand. BUT, if the powers that be can get that right, then it makes it more repugnant that they cannot protect the nation's young from known predators.

People have said they are ill, but there are not many illnesses where deviant sexual pleasure is the symptom. If people have a socially dangerous infectious illness such as TB or AIDS they can be jailed for deliberately passing it on, and I cannot for the life of me understand why a childs life has to be ruined because of someone else's 'illness'.
There are murdering psychopaths locked up for life, ill they may be , but bloody dangerous too, why should paedophiles be any different.

Superb!... what a thought provoking statement Teddy, it makesmakes mego "yeah... how come"
(Except, I'm not in total agreement on the 'devient' bit as it's akin to defining 'normal' and as our hero says to his mum in Quadrophenia"Oh yeah... just what is ******* 'normal' then?" :))

RE: Sarah's Law?

'Sarah's Law' - that'll put information into the hands of ignorant vigilante mobs who wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a child molester and a child doctor. Mob mentality would rule.

Patsy.
