Is everyone else enjoying the Olympics as much as me? Loved the opening ceremony, just got back from seeing hockey and have to say it was a brilliant experience. The park, venues, volunteers and general atmosphere were all amazing. Even the trains worked!

Normally pretty cynical about this sort of thing but made me so proud of London.

Hi Jinx
What a show that opening ceremony was! fun, laugh, quirky, very humane. Loved it!
Watching some of the events too and it is amazing feel, electric almost, so many happy faces, cheering on. Watching odd event here and there, a medal here and there is also more entertaining than I first thought..
It transpires some condemn dear ol' Blighty too quickly! Its all working perfectly as you say! Enjoy the rest of it!
🙂

Yes, really enjoying it! And it has been interesting watching sports I don't know much about or wouldn't normally watch like archery, equestrian or water slalom which seemed a pretty crazy idea for a sport but great to watch.

Been watching the odd bits on catch up on i-player as we don't have a TV (or licence to watch it live streaming). Lots of good sports to watch (if only sport was more varied on TV normally).

Watched the opening ceremony and it was a lot better than I expected it to be, humourous, interesting and creative. The big let down was Paul McCartny at the end... poor choice of song and poor quality, seemed such a deflation from the rest of the show. Far better would have been some other world known singer doing John Lennon's "Imagine", as that words of that song would have been far more fitting.... a british artists with an international song.

🙂

I agree, but I thought he was a shade better than at the jubilee?

I would love to see Chris Rea on a stage like that. He probably keeps himself to himself. But he is even bigger in Europe and US than he is here in UK.

Excuse me, but what is wrong with my song, "Hey Jude"? :p

And I hoped everyone enjoyed all my sisters floating down with their umbrellas! 😉

To me, the opening ceremony was summed up by an Australian journalist who just said, "Bonkers, but brilliant!"

I'm not even interested in sport, but have been glued o the telly and in the car I can't believe it, but I'm listening to 5 live!! Have got tickets for two events next week - can't wait. There really is an epidemic of joy, pride and enthusiasm. Just wonderful.

Love and peace,

Judy

I've been a bit underwhelmed by Macca for a while now but did love the rest of the opening ceremony. Even watched it again as there were so many little touches missed first time round.

We had such a good time at the hockey. Not especially a fan but we were able to get tickets. Whole different game than the dark ages when I was in the Under 14s and knee deep in mud.

If you are going to the park then food is expensive and there's lots of queuing so we took a small picnic (keep it discreet as they say you're not supposed to) and had lunch in front of the big screens. Also wear sensible shoes as the place is huge and it's a long walk anywhere.

I'm quite cynical about the Olympics, but that opening ceremony was superb 😀 Even the 100's of Judy's floating down from the heavens above 😉

Must of been something quite something hearing 1000 drummers.

Shame old Sir Paul couldn't deliver. But don't worry Hp'ers, 😎 Britannia still rocks!!

Shame you can only use a Visa debit/credit card, eat McD's (described by the Times food critic as biting into a breast implant) and all the other nonsense corporate sponsorship at the London Olympics.

Our Judy perhaps? 😉 - see Principled's avatar below 😀

Yes, absolutely fantastic - 7 gold medals no less and WELL DONE Jessica Ennis - not that anyone elses's medals were any the less deserved, but she's a Yorkshire lass - woo-hoooooo!!!!

There seems to be a wonderful feel-good factor coming from these Olympics - let's hope it remains and continues to lift the nation's mood. It seems that all is going well and according to plan which is great!

woohoo! indeeed
What amazes me how much work, practice, commitment, emotion, energy, time sheer grit goes into doing it right on the day. To win a medal, so much is put at stake and sacrificed. Trully praise worthy.
Well done to all particpants, winners not only British winners but winners from anywhere.
These games are getting more and more exciting, millions of happy beaming faces, celebrating a win as their own, how lovely is that! Boundaries disappear even if momentarily...

and Andy has finally won! beautiful. After he had us all in tears last month, he has done it!

Well, I've just got back from my first event there - synchronized swimming at the Aquatics Centre (going to the Stadium to see Athletics on Thursday).

There's a huge buzz everywhere - Westfield is amazing and packed and actually, the original Stratford shopping centre is lovely, with a real market up the centre.

However, I don't want to sound like a grumpy old woman, but here we go....

I remember hearing Seb Coe saying years ago, "We're going to make everyone walk" - like miles. Even the Aquatic Centre, which looks on the map, close to Stratford isn't, because you have to walk past it, across the river, then all along the front, then go back across the river again and you end up a stone's throw from where you were several thousands of steps previously. OK, they have golf buggies there, but not even a fraction enough. One friend I was with really wasn't well and we tried to get on a buggy, but in the end walked as every one that came along was full.

Next - OK it was my fault not reading the visitors info before I booked my seats, where they do warn you how steep it is. Have a look at these links below and you'll get an idea - no lift, no escalator. We were about half way up the slope of yellow seats, but the same friend had to sit down on the steps as she couldn't get her breath. I had no idea that I'd be climbing Mount Everest today!!

When I go on Thursday to the Stadium, there are 3 things I'm taking - a cushion to sit on, binoculars (the girls in the pool were like little ants from that height) and ear plugs! The hour before it started had music blaring out, then the warm up girl yelling into her mike and trying to get everyone to shout louder and louder - I spent most of that time with my fingers in my ears! 😡

But all that apart, I'm so glad I went. The trains were really good - the Jubilee line was every 3 mins and I got a seat both way. There was a tremendous atmosphere - everyone was friendly and chatty and mountain climbing and ear-splitting noise apart, it was a really enjoyable day!

Love from a knackered Judy, (aka Mary Poppins).

PS There are still quite a few seats for the Paralympics and they start at £10 and go up to only £50 or £60 - a fraction of the price of the main Olympics.

Hi Mary Poppins!

You brought the scene to life. I walked with you, sat with you in a noisy stadium stuffing my ears with my fingers. Did we have something to eat?
Glad you enjoyed and had some exercise and a good old moan! but I would like to ask , if you don't mind...Up until Olympics, I knew you only as Judy...how did Mary Poppins come to be? Mind you strangely enough, Mary Poppins behoves you.
x
