Its a stark reminder that with all out technology (and it looks as if the technology was deliberately switched off) the world is still big enough to get lost in. I too feel for the families of the passengers. But its a VEEY unusual hijacker that doesn't immediately fly to a safe country.......
I wonder if the passengers (apart from the 20 that were world class electronic geeks = useful) are still alive or killed due to them being witnesses?
Why wasn't someone using their mobile phone??
Seriously weird.

They did! Did you read the link I gave in #3 here?
Yes - I understand that cell phones may have been ringing 'out' when called from the mainland having been blocked in some way, but why wasn't someone actually speaking to someone, or texting, on the ground prior to the 'blackout' - which could be used to assimilate information about activity in the cabin. Still weird.

Many airlines do not allow use of mobile phones do they?
No one should be using a mobile phone on an aeroplane as it's a radio communication device that has the potential of interfering with the planes sensitive electronic equipment.
A mobile phone probably wouldn't work well very high up for 2 reasons: first over sea there's no masts to pick up the signal; secondly flying over land you may pick up too many masts and distort the signal.
T'is weird this MH-370 disappearance. You name it, I've read the theories on the internet.
So I've come to the conclusion that this is a tragic accident/incident or a state-sponsored conspiracy/cover up. But apart from that I'm trying not to speculate as there's too little information and too much media suspect reporting.
Anyone else feel the latest news on this feels somehow unconvincing? China too it would seem!

I don't think China doubts the fate of the airliner. All the evidence points to it having crashed. Until any remains are found tho of COURSE China will say it 'wants evidence' I think we all do. The relatives will not have closure until physical evidence is found...and I think everyone wants the relatives to have closure
Power to the people! Look what the involved relatives just did...
I know the CEO of Malaysian airlines has NOT ruled out the idea that he will resign when this is all over. He has certainly said he will be considering his options when this dreadful mess is sorted out.
