The internet slang term "LOL" (laughing out loud) has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary, to the mild dismay of language purists.

What do others think of this?

There's more interesting information in the BBC article. 🙂

I
It could well be expected fairly soon, given how people latch on to such expressions/phrases.
Just Imagine responding to a joke with a... LOL!! why waste energy laughing out loud when LOL is all you need??!!

I came across someone else recently who's thought that for years. And so her communication in email kept going quite strange as people didn't understand each other. 🙂 It's nothing to be ashamed of. 🙂 Right here on HP I've had to ask what does "WAG" mean (not an internet term!) and what did someone mean by "senior moment"? 😮 I guess I was having one...

V 🙂

It's often dumped on the end of a sentence to either soften a statement or to show sarcasm. But, I bet most people who write 'LOL' are actually not laughing out loud at all, but sitting there with a stony, blank face. Which is quite funny.... LOL??
