A friend has forwarded a link to an article from the Irish Times (it is not a joke, even though some of my Facebook friends thought it was!) - a consultant psychiatrist is recommending to the Irish government to add lithium to tap water! Interesting.... essentially calling for experimenation to be performed on unwitting/unwilling members of the public without their consent and without their ability to choose. A breach of their human rights one would have thought? Well, if they can add flouride, then why not eh!

Perhaps the government should just hook us all up to IV drips to provide all the minerals, nutrients and artifically created chemicals they feel we need?

Let's hope nothing comes of that and that psychiatrist is shot down in flames (figuratively speaking) for making such a suggestion.

All Love and Reiki Hugs

Hi Masha

Having read the article, I understand to a degree where he is coming from, but to treat the whole population without their consent is totally unacceptable.

Lithium, a naturally occuring element is found in some water supplies but I am unaware of any studies comparing the rate of suicide in these areas as compared with areas without this element in the soil.

It is not the only means of helping people with depression - a good wholefood diet can work wonders! - as can EFT!!

I believe the original study was done because suicide rates were much lower in areas of Japan where lithium is naturally in the water. High doses were already used to treat depression and mood ‘disorders’, but it was hypothesised that the tiny doses in the water might well be having the same effect because they were being taken continually.
This was about three years ago and the Japanese team said much more research needed to be done. I’m not aware of any more recent studies.

Thing is....from what I remember about lithium "medication" used years ago, we had to do regular bloods for toxicity. The therapeutic parameters are quite fine/narrow.

I really hope this doesn't catch on. I am certain that treating an individual's depression can be done without doping the rest of us in our tap water.

Incidentally, the Sun contains a huge amount of lithium, more than the average star. The only way it could have got there is because during the early formation days of the Solar System a gas giant on a par with Jupiter, was 'sucked into' our Sun. Gas giants apparently, are composed in great measure of lithium.

Are you sure? I thought it was less. A couple of years ago there was a lot in the science press about stars like our sun, which have planets, being lower in lithium that others of this type, but without planets.

Hi Crowan,

Yes, the Sun definitely contains more than its fair share of lithium. It's been proved by the amount of light that's emitted from it (no, I don't understand!) I will get the article and provide a link.

Hello Crowan,

Re: Li in the Sun. Apparently, a huge amount of lithium was present in the Sun during its formation stage. It was caused by a huge gas giant being absorbed into it before any planets formed. As the planets formed, the early Sun burnt up most of its Li source, Nowadays, the Sun doesn't have as much Li as it once had, but it still has quite a substantial amount, even so.

Li is found on Earth in igneous rocks and soils. It is an unstable metal at high temperatures. It comes in at number 3 in the Periodic Table.

Just thought I'd throw in the science bit!

Love,
Patsy.

My understanding is that all stars received roughly the same amount of lithium at the big bang. However, the sun has far less than would be expected by its mass (about 10% of what would be expected).. A couple of years ago, this was explained by the discovery that stars with planets have less lithium than those without – I still haven’t read if scientist have discovered why. Have a look here.

Li is found on Earth in igneous rocks and soils..

Mostly granite. However, also in metamorphic and sedimentary. There’s a lot in sea water.

Hi Guy's .

I always have a crystal elixIr on the go . I tend not to drink water straight from the tap if I can help it .

Herkimer diamonds are a wonderful crystal that one can make as an elixer as I do for myself . I highly recommend .

Plenty of info on herkimers on the internet .
