Some of the latest;
Five Israeli activists who attempted to break their country's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip in a boat have been released from police custody, though five others who had been on board the ship are set to be deported.
The Israeli army said in a statement on Tuesday that Israeli forces boarded the Irene "without incident" and that "no violence of any kind" was used by either side.
"They didn't kill us like they killed other Palestinians and Muslims, but they were very brutal. I got shot with a taser shock gun ... and was brutally treated just like my brother Itamar," Shapira, a member of the Combatants for Peace group, told the Reuters news agency.

It seems that they continue to behave just like those that history has made them hate.

I read this very interesting article in the Independent the other day. It's about Gideon levy, 'the most hated man in Israel'...
“My biggest struggle,” he says, “is to rehumanize the Palestinians. There’s a whole machinery of brainwashing in Israel which really accompanies each of us from early childhood, and I’m a product of this machinery as much as anyone else. [We are taught] a few narratives that it’s very hard to break. That we Israelis are the ultimate and only victims. That the Palestinians are born to kill, and their hatred is irrational. That the Palestinians are not human beings like us? So you get a society without any moral doubts, without any questions marks, with hardly public debate. To raise your voice against all this is very hard.”
He's been shot at by the Israeli Defence Force, and is considered a security risk for saying that Palestinians are human too.
Hi Barafundle,
Yes - what we are seeing is a form of apartheid, tolerated and even encouraged by the US and Britain.
The invasion of lands not theirs is given the placid nod, while those who have a right to be there are expelled or treated as non-people. There seems to be no end to the arrogance of these people, every day they behave more like those who have persecuted them in the past.
They are a disgrace and should be ashamed of their behavior.
chris
On another thread I once commented that Israel is behaving like Nazis and I got howled down. But I do think it horribly sad that a race of people that has known the horrors of persecution should now be persecuting another race of people. And behaving with high handedness and arrogance. Two wrongs never ever make a right.
This from the BBC:
"After they boarded, I was standing with my hands around Reuven Moskowitz, the 82-year-old holocaust survivor," he told BBC News. "We were trying to protect each other and singing: 'We shall overcome.'
"The Israeli navy captain came closer and pulled out his Taser gun and said: 'If you don't let go... it will hurt.'"We continued to hug and he shot me twice on my right shoulder. It was painful, but not as bad as the third shot.
"He moved the life vest I had on, so he could reach closer to my heart and shot me, which made me lose control of my body. It felt like an epileptic attack or something.
"At that point I couldn't hold anything and they grabbed me brutally to the boat."

and I suppose if the chap had died it would have been his own fault.....
chris
I would have thought electrocuting people who posed no danger (i.e. they hadn't pulled out a weapon on the navy captain or threatened him) would come under the realm of inhuman activity, breach of human rights or even war crimes.
Hi Giles,
I agree - the stories may yet turn out to be less than fully correct, however doing it three times at that close range seems horrible - this seems to be accepted by the people of the country, or else they simply dismiss it, whichever it is a bad reflection on them.

This is the start of paying the price for their behaviour:
From Turkey..
"Does (Israel) think it can enter Lebanon with the most modern aircraft and tanks to kill women and children, and destroy schools and hospitals, and then expect us to remain silent?" Erdogan said at a conference organised by the Union of Arab Banks.
"Does it think it can use the most modern weapons, phosphorus munitions and cluster bombs to kill children in Gaza and then expect us to remain silent?
"We will not be silent and we will support justice by all means available to us."

Hooray at last someone is taking a stand - well done Turkey.

Palestinian territories: “Prolonged occupation, a new type of crime against humanity” – UN human rights expert
“In this respect,” Mr. Falk warned, “the UN, the governments and the peoples of the world will be all be judged complicit to the extent that this persistent violation of fundamental human rights is endured without taking the necessary steps in a spirit of urgency and commitment to bring this abusive occupation to an end and achieve Palestinian self-determination in accordance with international law and the dictates of global justice.”
Regarding current efforts to reactivate a peace process between Israel and the Palestinian authorities, the UN Special Rapporteur reminded that “negotiation between the parties to the conflict needs to be guided by the implementation of several principles of international law if a settlement of the conflict is to achieve Palestinian self-determination.”
These principles, as set forth in General Assembly Resolution 48/158, 20 December 1993, include the following:
· withdrawal from Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem;
· resolving the Palestinian refugee problem in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 181 and subsequent resolutions;
· dismantling settlements established during the occupation;
· fixing of secure and internationally recognized borders;
· guaranteeing free access to sacred sites and religious buildings throughout historic Palestine.

We are the peoples of the world - we are complicit, fact, and we should be ashamed.
This has been the case since 1967, 43 years of neglect.

A lot of people have commented on the irony of Israel being a racist, oppressive state, like the Nazis. In fact it isn't so surprising, as in the 1930s and 1940s the Zionists and Nazis collaborated against their common enemies, namely the East European Hassidic Jews who saw Judaism as spiritual not political, and the assimilated Jews who identified with their native lands eg Germany and France and didn't want their "own" country as so far as they were concerned they already had one.
Zionists absolutely must provoke eternal hatred against Jews all over the world, as it is this that justifies their policy that Jews must have their own country where they will be "safe". Of course in reality they're much safer in most other countries- no one's firing rockets at Golders Green!
I do think that the anti-Zionist Jews in Israel are some of the most morally courageous people in the world.
Hi Pete,
Yes - there are some very special people working hard to try to provide a more compassionate and less racist state, they are always under threat of course.
how it is that the world railed against South Africa and its racist past, yet stand by and seem happy to accpet this modern violently racist state.
