Sorry if I don't follow the link. I despise Glenn Beck and his ilk and refuse to view anything they post up. It saddens and angers me how many Americans are easily brainwashed by these guys.

Not just Americans, I would guess.

Yep, well I didn't have a moment free and didn't look into him. I thought I'd "drop it in here" and get opinions. The link was sent by a religious American to an Israeli I know, and she mass-emailed it around.

Maybe none of us have the time to look into it, but in what way is he factually wrong on those three figures whose photos he has up on the right, if he is wrong?

IHH, the 'terrorist' organisation referred to, is a Turkish NGO that carries out humanitarian relief in war zones and during natural disasters. Some people have tried to label them a terrorist organisation seemingly on the basis that they are an Islamic charity.

Code Pink is an anti war/human rights group largely made up of women. I think the picture is of Jodie Evans who has a particular interest in alternative technology.

William Ayres was an anti-Vietnam war activist in the 60s and was a co-founder of the Weather Underground (a communist student group) in 1969, an organisation which was active for the duration of the Vietnam war.

You've got to wonder about characters like Glenn Beck when they need to refer to drawings on a blackboard to make a point. I know the people who like him don't consider questioning his 'facts', they just want their prejudices reinforced.

Interesting from all. I got the email and just dropped it into this thread to see what people thought. I still don't personally know a thing about it. 🙂

But I'd state one thing I know reasonably for sure.

While most living within Gaza don't want war, and want to get on with more productive lives, it's a place where thousands of rockets are launched upon Israel from. It's not my role, but if I were leading Israel right now I'd certainly use a diffferent approach, but practically it couldn't be wholly pacifist. HAMAS rules the roost, unfortunately.

The rockets are basically daily. No one can pretend this is a one-sided black/white situation. On the other hand, yes, I do wish Israel would remember the 20th-century past of the Jews, and not deal with aggression with increased aggression. Ironic, that now they do that: but they do have that past. After all the wars, one can understand that Israel is self-protctive.

Looking to a recent, earlier post of mine, can there be another Anwar Sadat coming up into maturity in either side, to bring a 'miracle' such as between Israel and Egypt?

I recall hearing around my early teens of the "Weather Underground".

From Wiki:

Their goal was to create a clandestine revolutionary party for the violent overthrow of the US government and the establishment of a dictatorship of the proletariat.[3]

With a charismatic[4] and articulate[5] leadership whose revolutionary positions were characterized by anti-imperialist, feminist, and Black liberationist rhetoric,[2] the group conducted a campaign of bombings through the mid-1970s, including aiding the jailbreak and escape of Timothy Leary. The "Days of Rage," their first public demonstration on October 8, 1969, was a riot in Chicago timed to coincide with the trial of the Chicago Seven. In 1970 the group issued a "Declaration of a State of War" against the United States government, under the name "Weather Underground Organization" (WUO). The bombing attacks mostly targeted government buildings, along with several banks.

I'm sure that by now he's utterly changed into a humanitarian, peace-loving person whom we'd all love to invite round for dinner with our families and children.

So the guy in the video clip seems to have a point.

Obviously. The man was a communist as a student 40 years ago, so he must be dangerous.

"We did carry out symbolic acts of extreme vandalism directed at monuments to war and racism, and the attacks on property, never on people, were meant to respect human life and convey outrage and determination to end the Vietnam war." - William Ayres

He should be locked up. 😮

Being facetious is demeaning to the doer. I see the old tricks remain.

Ayres is now a university lecturer and Beck's logic of him being a terrorist sympathiser seemed to have shades of McCarthyism about it, that's all.

Maybe it's time to leave HP as I really don't need to get into this sort of thing.

This is not facetious?

Israel's blockade of Gaza is a clear violation of international humanitarian law, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said.

"The whole of Gaza's civilian population is being punished for acts for which they bear no responsibility. The closure therefore constitutes a collective punishment imposed in clear violation of Israel's obligations under international humanitarian law," the agency said in the statement.

...the key message from the body which rarely publicly criticises governments is that Israel's blockade of Gaza must be lifted.

I have heard that there may be some lifting of the blockade? Perhaps that could have some bearing of Egypt releasing their Blockade:confused:

So finally the actions of the Israelies are defined as illegal, let's see what the UN makes of it nd if they have the bottle to do anything about it - or if the US decide to veto any moves. If they do veto any actions than in my opiniopn they become as guilty of murder as the troops that attacked the flotilla.

"The UN Human Rights Commission released a report on Wednesday which said that Israeli forces violated international law when they raided a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, killing nine activists, earlier this year."

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/israel-presses-un-to-stall-debate-on-biased-gaza-flotilla-report-1.315463

and is this any better:

"
Medical officials in the Gaza Strip reported that 20-year-old fisherman, Mohammad Bakhar, was shot dead Friday morning by Israel Navy boats off the shores of the northern Strip. According to the report, the young man was evacuated to the hospital with gunshots wounds to the chest."

A fisherman..... seems I've heard something similar before, though it was a while ago.

Ah, but the report is biased, so it is easily dismissed by the Isreali Government (and by extension, the U.S.). Any action attempted by the UN will be blocked by the U.S., guaranteed. The U.S. is as much Israel's lapdog as Tony Blair was George Bush's lapdog...

Hi Scott- yes, what you say is true - but the rest of the world sees what is happening. The UN report is a real problem for them and will colour future actions despite the support of the US.
