Any organisation that professes to speak on behalf of various communities will get a sympathetic ear as long as Labour identifies with its cause. Actually, that per se, is not such a bad thing IMO. But of course the question is what happens after the sympathetic ear has been lent.

It's a bad thing when shop workers can be sacked for having time off due to sickness but Labour are only interested if there has been a racial or a gender issue involved.

He's wanted to be PM for so long, but is he really up to the job

I wonder if anyone is, actually. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be PM or President of the US or any other ruler. I truly can't get my head around what it would be like to have that kind of ambition. I mean, who do these people think they are? (;))
But just imagine if we were all governed (and I mean the whole world) by men and women of vision and integrity. Awakened souls who wanted only the best for everyone....Sorry I'm off in la la land.

Well Judy (Principled) is always telling us not to be depressed and miserable about world affairs. She says (I paraphrase, sorry Judy!) 'be confident. Be optimistic. Be cheerful. Look on the bright side. Don't give energy to the dark'. Or words to that effect. So that's probably what we should do. Just imagine standing in Gordon Brown's shoes, my God what would it be like? He's welcome to it....we only have to wait a little and the government will change. And it will still be awful. But meanwhile the sun shines (isn't it lovely today?) and the birds sing.....tra la, tra la. (Sorry but la la land is a very nice place to be!)

When the sun in the morning peeps over the hill
And kisses the roses round my window sill
Then my heart fills with gladness when I hear the trill
Of the birds in the treetops on Mockin' Bird Hill
Tra la la twitle dee dee dee it gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning to the mockin' bird's trill
Tra la la twitle dee dee dee there's peace and good will
You're welcome as the flowers on Mockin' Bird Hill

Got a three cornered plow and an acre to till
And a mule that I bought for a ten dollar bill
And a tumbled down shack and a rusty ol' mill
But it's my home sweet home up on Mockin' Bird Hill
Tra la la twitle dee dee dee it gives me a thrill...

When it's late in the evening I climb up the hill
And survey all my kingdom while everything's still
Only me and the sky and an ol' whippoorwill
Singin' songs in the twilight on Mockin' Bird Hill
Tra la la twitle dee dee dee it gives me a thrill...
Twitle dee dee dee dee twiddle dee dee oh oh...

I don't believe what he says and I don't trust him or his government. Nor do I believe that Cameron would do any better.

I agree on Brown. I realise this is the Current Affairs part of HP, but I receive an almost instant 'intuitive' reading of some people, and Brown is in this to satisfy ego. It's for himself. A bit like - Brown is to Britain what Abramovitch is to Chelsea: an interesting thing to play with.

I wouldn't agree on Cameron though. We just don't know, and I get a feel of quite a fair bit of sincerity there. I find it wierd that someone would wait for ten years just lusting for this position.

Mind you:

I can't imagine anyone wanting to be PM or President of the US or any other ruler. I truly can't get my head around what it would be like to have that kind of ambition. I mean, who do these people think they are?

They're rare, Sunanda, in politics, because you usually do better in politics by being machievellian. But some get through, either mostly or at least partly sincere and really just wanting to serve the nation, for the sake of the nation and its people. I'm sure we can all think of examples in this nation and other nations in the past. There just seems to be a bit of a dearth right now.

I feel an entity-being, from the planet Boac-Mbe, called Judy, wants to get channelled through me, and I resonate with her message: "Be positive! Don't despair! Change and good leaders can come, and perhaps all the sooner the more you expect it!" 🙂

I believe that for decades we have been fed subliminal messages preparing us for the leadership of Gordon Brown.

Apart from The Stranglers song who remembers the theme music for 'Dad's Army'...

Mr. Brown goes off to town
On the 8:21.
But he comes home each evening
And he's ready with his gun.

A sinister glorification of Mr. Brown's enthusiasm for armed conflict.

And what about 'Father Brown', just a few subtle differences...

"Father Brown is a short, stumpy Catholic priest working in London with shapeless clothes and a large umbrella, and uncanny insight into human evil."

Yes, I can see that ... so Dad's Army was actually written as a preparatory conspiracy for the continuing Nu Labour take-over? Scary.

Anyway, as for the original thread question by Nadine: "what's everyone's opinions on our new PM?" - lol, it looks as though he has resounding and unanimous acclaim here on HP (not!).

It is disturbing though, that for good reason some of this pessimism appears based upon lack of trust in leading politicians in general. I'd say that's a major legacy from the Blair years, surely? For example, I never felt that six-0-level boy, John Major, was a part of some vast egocentric conspiracy! (Perhaps we should write into our law that nobody with A-levels or above may become PM? Or more realistically, nobody from Oxbridge?)

Have you forgotten his fondness for Curry?

To spice his life up? That was hilarious, and I doubt the Curry has quite forgotten. Or maybe has. 🙂
