To return to the topic - LOL - I would like to see Nice Clegg come other than third, or could he win, probably not. It would make a breath of fresh air from the other 2 parties, and IMO, he is much better to look at.:D:D
Well, from what I've seen so far, it looks like the popular press have aimed their guns at sinking Clegg. It was bound to happen...
They certainly have, Scott. What happened to impartiality? I hope people are intelligent enough to see the smears for what they are.

What an odd "coincidence" that all the Tory-supporting papers have anti-Clegg stories today (the day of the second leaders' debate), eh?
Indeed, there's no point in listening to the papers. As one person commented on the BBC website comments... "Thanks to the Sun and Daily Mail for helping me make up my mind. If they're out to get Clegg then he must be doing something right"
Supersub, so far in the HP poll, the Lib Dems appear to be winning... 😉
Poll is here for anyone not voted yet:

Hi
I am with you all the way Sunanda. I just cant get to grips with David Cameron spitting vernom everytime when he opens his mouth
I'm not one for being taken in by the things I read in the paper, good job really as I'm a Sun reader, but I do have to admit that it is true that Nick Clegg was the most senior politcian to have had is nose in the trough re the expenses scandal and I don't like what I am hearing about him saying that he wants even more European rule than we already have not to mention the fact that he's said something daft and in my opinion untenable about immigration.
I like what the UKIP bloke said on TV the other day, he said it won't matter who promises what they can't deliver because at the moment we are skint. end of, it's a shame he's from UKIP because he's a no nonsense, straight talking bloke.
Love

No he didn't "have his nose in the trough" except insofar as he claimed the expenses to which he was entitled- I think you'll find that the vast majority of employees in any job would do the same.
And just out of interest, why buy a paper if you don't believe what's written in it?
As for UKIP, whenever I've heard their former leader Nigel Farage on the radio he seems like he thinks he can win an arguement by shouting the loudest and interrupting. Their present leader, Lord Somebody, was interviewed last week, someone asked him about some daft policy of UKIP's, he said he "wasn't a professional politician and didn't know the details of all their policies." This is their party leader and he doesn't know his own policies.
Their daftest policy is that of making it illegal for women to wear a veil in public. They presumably think the police don't have enough to do already, and should therefore be kept occupied by harrassing a few harmless insecure women. They are a bunch of loud-mouthed ignorant bullies, worse than the BNP.
UKIP are becoming more and more like the BNP...
I think people should avoid all newspapers at election time, they simply don't give a balanced view.
The other day I got three items of literature from the Conservatives and they were POISONOUS. It was all about bashing the other parties and local independents, I was really angered by it. I was angered because I know that some of what they were claiming was either inaccurate or bare-faced lies!!!
I think it's time for a change. I doubt the Lib Dems will prove much better than the other two, but so far, I agree with more of their policies than the other parties. I admire the fact they they aren't bowing to the obsessive, unhealthy and unproductive fear around immigration and Europe - although I know I'm in the minority for thinking that.
I have noticed a bit of a generational difference of opinion. I have a lot of friends who are over 10 years younger than me, all of them will be voting Lib Dem. Friends my age - mid-30s - a bit of a mixture, but mostly Lib Dem. All of my friend's parents are still of the opinion that they'll only ever come third.
So even if they don't break through with this election, the younger generation have been reached and we could see a shift in the next few years.
I really hope they win as the other two alternatives are truly awful, IMO.

TBH, this is what angers me about politics *and* religious groups. They all go out of their way to tell you what is wrong with the other guy, but not tell you what is right or wrong with themselves. I would consider the one who tells me about their own weaknesses the most honest of all...

I think Gordon Brown has made his weakness pretty clear! But if you want a heavyweight...
I just haven't got the foggiest for whom I shall vote for this time round :confused: and double :confused:

I was 19 and in my first job after leaving school (I by no means went right to uni) when the council for which I worked put me on weekly day-release to take 3 'A'-levels in economics, business, and politics. Since I soon chucked the job and the lot, to travel and get a better education that way, it didn't amount to much. But I will always remember the ex Labour MP who took us for our A-level in Politics. (I didn't hear all he said as the room was overheated and I used to get to bed late: I arranged with the gal next to me that I could sleep at my desk (I really couldn't help but), hand over eyes as if reading, and she'd nudge me awake if he asked me a question.
This Labour MP was a sweat-ridden, slimy sort, but chiefly boring as heck. But I'll never forget how animated he got on the subject of hung parliaments. It virtually paralyses a nation, and it does look as if we are headed for one. Logic says we'll end up with one now, but I truly pray for a miracle.
With a hung parliament - certainly what we'll get to begin with if Nick Clegg gets many of the votes (I suspect they'll be for him, not for policies - which is politics reduced to an 'X-factor' to decide literally the fate of this nation) - then there'll be indecision by government and an inability to act decisively just when that's exactly what we need to escape a possible economic melt-down such as Greece is now witnessing.
Never mind who one votes for, we have to try to avoid a hung parliament. At other times, that would make a political point in a way: in 2010 it will destroy our economy and affect us all personally. Hmm - I hadn't meant to make this point as it hadn't happened when I thought of this post, but Gordon Brown blew the election for Labour yesterday by showing his true despotic personality colours. Labour must be out of this now.
So shall we vote for Nick? Because he represents "change". Gawd blimey, who really believes that he is in any way, shape, or form a "change"? He comes across to me as more of a politician, and insincere, than the other two. Yeah, maybe I'd vote for him 'cos of his looks?? - but I'm male so no thanks. I'm afraid we face much more important things in 7 days from now than the irrational perception of "change", or of a new, pretty face. We need to decide whether we want our economy to go into melt-down. I know I don't. It's going to take tough decisions (which Labour refused to make for disastrous months as they waited, disastrously selfishly, for the election). Major cuts are going to happen, since there's no money left (partly thanks to Brown) for there not to be cuts.
[I'd like to personally at this point offer Gordon Brown my personal thanks for selling off, ten years ago, most of Britain's vital gold reserves - to China - when the price to sell was its lowest so the UK lost untold billions, and gold being a major backbone of any national economy. It was an almost traitorous move, and incomprehensible.]
But Gordon is surely gone now.
I just hope we do get Nick. 🙂
Oh, I mean the Nick - Supersub - who has offered to bare his bum, if allowed, on HP! 😀
Ch***'s sake, no - not 'the other' Nick, the "change" and the hung parliament! 😮 What and get finally 100% into Europe as a sub-district of a superstate ruled by Germany?
No thanks!!
What, allow millions more to enter and sink this island by population weight?
No thanks!
Vote for the Raving Loonies if they are still going, but not for the non-HP Nick (IMHO) 🙂

(I suspect they'll be for him, not for policies - which is politics reduced to an 'X-factor' to decide literally the fate of this nation
The fact is, as far as I'm concerned, that the Lib Dems have quite a few policies that I agree wholeheartedly with. It seems to me that they would be prepared to grasp the nettle and produce a real change in the way this nation thinks about things. Off the top of my head I would say that it makes perfect sense not to upgrade Trident, thereby saving millions. And the desire to keep people out of prison rather than just building bigger and bigger jails is one I very much go along with. So I don't particularly care if people do just vote for Nick: IMO it's a move towards change and a new way of life. And isn't that what we all (or nearly all) believe in, here on HP?
