Here's a summary of data regarding "global warming" according to the latest information from NASA:

Thank you for posting this V! Millions are in the grip of this fear/guilt

My mania went 8-9 years ago, it only came on vey briefly. But when it was there I was so concerned that I avoided lighting the fire to warm us up, in order to save the planet!

Then I suddenly twigged, hang on! state/system has got me and millions exactly where they want us to be -full of fear, unsure, guilty of ruining this planet. Fearful people are so much easier to manage and govern. If its not global warming, its terrorists, credit crunch etc etc
Each one of has wisdom enough to act in a beneficial way to ourselves and all that is affected by us (whether we choose to believe this or not)
So, Thanks again, we just live our lives the best way, we can. Thats all one needs to do and can do. It is pointless carrying the cross of colossal and global measures. Too heavy a load!

LOL.

I've mentioned this before years ago on HP, but I really felt sad when way back in the 1980s someone I knew was so convinced that the sea level was going to rise massively - then in the 1980s! - that he sold all belongings, sold his London house, and fled to some mountian. I've never heard from him since ....

there's hysteria on both sides

Has anyone read the original paper??? The link in the first post of this thread is not a summary of any findings. The article has been taken from another article that appears here: New NASA Data Blow Gaping Hole In Global Warming Alarmism - Yahoo! News .

If you follow the links from the original article above you end up at the original paper here: http://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/3/8/1603/pdf .

The paper does not claim that global warming or climate change isn't happening. What it does show is that figures previously used are out of sorts with what this new data shows. After trawling my way through the mind numbing data that only a scientist could love I basically came to the conclusion that the data showed that the hotter the planet gets the more heat it gives off.

As for the friend in London? Maybe he had the right idea??? Sea levels have risen by 8 inches over the last 100 years. Since the Thames barrier was built it has been closed over 100 times to prevent flooding. In the 1980's it was closed 4 times, the 1990's, 35 times and from 2000-2010 a total of 75 times.

We are in an interglacial period though, I mean sea levels are actually rising. The real question is whether or not we are the cause of it, and whether or not we can do anything about it. I seem to recall some Dutch people working on a type of algae that is suspected of causing the last ice age (!) because it just nommed so much carbon, dunno how true that is.

I believe we've asked the wrong question. We shouldn't be asking if we cause it, we should be asking do we contribute to it? To me the answer to this is a most definite yes.

We can't on the one hand claim to be the dominant species on this planet chopping down forests, using it's resources, pumping out pollution etc; while with the other hand claim: It's nothin to do with me guv, it's that elephant over there passing wind:).

We can't do anything about natural phenomena (yet) but we can do something about what we do and it needn't be dramatic or scary or major lifestyle threatening.

Sun and cosmic rays cause majority of global warming, not humans.

Sun and cosmic rays cause majority of global warming, not humans.

Cosmic rays cause from half to all of global warming according to this research from 1996, which most people have kept quiet about.

At least it gives an alternative view, and why shouldn't this view be looked at and admitted to be highly credible, based upon credible science?

It's ironic, because you'd tend to think that the same kind of eco-folk who want to save the planet from humanity would also be the kind of people to believe in the power of cosmic rays ... the idea has something almost New Agey and 2012-related about it! 🙂

Certainly the sun has long-term cycles ...

Hi

As I understand it, the radiation from sunspot activity has an effect upon weather. We are at the moment going towards an 11 year peak of sunspot activity. But there is research that predicts that after this peak there will be period of very low sunspot activity. Last time this happened was the 1700's for a period of 70 years (called the Maunder minimum). This is when the Thames froze over and people were ice staking over it. File:Sunspot Numbers.png - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is of course a prediction, but if comes true, then we may be heading towards a period of global cooling.

I can't say if the world at the moment is warming due to human activity, but there are so many environmental issues that has to be addressed that I can't help thinking that the global warming hysteria is a kind of smoke screen.

Lawrence Solomon's article sounds more like a political rant than a measured scientific response to findings of a scientific experiment.

Here are links to the articles about the experiment reported in Nature that Lawrence Solomon is talking about: [DLMURL="http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110824/full/news.2011.504.html#B1"]Cloud formation may be linked to cosmic rays : Nature News[/DLMURL] and Role of sulphuric acid, ammonia and galactic cosmic rays in atmospheric aerosol nucleation : Nature : Nature Publishing Group

I particularly thought how apt the quote from the CERN scientist, Jasper Kirkby is: "People are far too polarized, and in my opinion there are huge, important areas where our understanding is poor at the moment".

As for the sun and sunspots: Here's what NASA has to say about it: NASA/Marshall Solar Physics and NASA/Marshall Solar Physics

Venetian: It's not only "eco-folk" who want to save the planet. Personally I want to see the planet saved due to the fact that I live on it, my kids live on it and when they have kids my grandchildren and great grandchildren(if I live that long:eek:, fingers crossed) have to live on it.

As to the human impact on our planet? Here's one view that NASA thinks: How is the global earth system changing? - NASA Science

The final sentence in the above article: "While scientists have solid evidence of such human influence, more data and research are needed to better understand and quantify our impact on our world's climate system." is pertinant to one of my previous responses in this thread.
