Very sad, what will it take for some of you to wake up?-civil war?
I don't think 40 extremists amounts to a civil war, but you obviously didn't read the whole article:
Muslim councillor Manzour Hussain said: Muslims Against Crusades do not represent the vast majority of law abiding, peaceful Muslim members of our society who respect Britain's armed forces. They certainly do not represent the views of the Muslim community of Barking and Dagenham.
Myarka.
I have to admit that I was - perhaps surprisingly - amused at the thought of "about 100 men — wearing English Defence League T-shirts and shouting “scum”, “Muslim bombers off our streets” and “Allah, Allah, who the f***k is Allah”" — surging out of the nearby Barking Dog pub and surrounding the Muslims. The name of the pub just says it all. Honestly, sunkiss, if you like to identify with the mindless mob then fair enough. Personally I'd be embarassed to embrace these sentiments and align myself with the great uneducated. 'Civil war'? How awful it must be to live in fear as you and your ilk do.
Thankfully, 19 out of the 21 comments so far submitted see sense.:)
Comments submitted where? Why are you so thankful? Do you seek civil war?

I was referring to the comments submitted at the end of the article.
Do I seek civil war?-lol, what kind of a question is that?-I am just thankful people are starting to wake up. So tell me, what do you guys think about Muslim men holding up placards calling our British solders murdering scum?
Oh, and just because someone opposes Islam does not automatically make them a member of the EDL, what a silly thing to suggest! I bet you would love to pigeon hole us all like that..ie.Ok, she votes BNP and is wary of Islam, that means she must be a member of the EDL, living off the state, and married to an alcoholic thug!
sunkiss,
You have every right to express your opinions, but I feel that they mostly stem from fear of the unknown. I have a very different group of friends to you who don't object to immigration... because many are immigrants or the children of immigrants. I have a wonderful best friend, who I would go as far to say I loved and I tell her I love her. To have such a wonderful human being in my life has been possible thanks to immigration, as she's the daughter of parents from Pakistan. We find it amusing that some people give us funny looks when we're out together as I might be wearing a vest and skirt and she's walking next to me covered up and wearing a headscarf. This is a representation of modern Britain, I think.
I don't know where you get this idea that non-EU people are eligible for handouts, it simply isn't true. They make you jump through hoops (OF FIRE) and the full process can take years to be entitled to live in this country and even then, you're not entitled to anything. And why do you think that the number of non-EU immigrants need to be capped as opposed to those from within the EU, which has been by far the larger group to have entered the country in recent years?
We live quite near Barking, it's a neighbouring borough, but I'm pleased to say there's no civil war in this household. My O/H is Muslim, I'm not, he's not trying to 'convert' me and I respect his religion and beliefs. The civil war in this house is more likely to happen over the football, rather than religion. And his family, who so far I've only talked to on webcam, have totally accepted me and are really happy that we have a baby on he way. But this is not the side of Islam that ever gets reported by the papers because it's not news, is it? It's the boring reality that most Muslims are very welcoming and hospitable people.
It's such a shame that by dismissing people who are different to you, you are cutting off your nose to spite your face, because there might just be one or two of these people that could actually, shock, horror, turn out to be really nice people.
And that's the problem with immigration. It's much easier to feel fear and resentment towards people who you see are taking away resources which are your 'birth right' than it is to actually form a bond with immigrants who are being theatened by the fearful people. It takes a much braver person to say that as much as they're scared of change, they are willing to embrace it.
And I honestly believe that things naturally balance out. There will be more and more people leaving this country over the years as people want to seek out a better life - that's simply human nature and has been for thousands of years.
So far, 8 couples and 4 children from my family have left the country. Humans move around. I'd like the option of living in another country and judging from my family's experience, the three countries that have been emmigrated to have been FAR MORE welcoming to them than the UK is to immigrants.
So tell me, what do you guys think about Muslim men holding up placards calling our British solders murdering scum?
It's equally as obscene as this:
I SAY COLLECT THEM ALL TOGETHER ROUND THEM UP ON BIG BOATS AND SEND THEM BACK TO THERE OWN COUNTRY AND WHEN THERE HALF WAY THERE BOMB THE *ING BOATS AND MAKE THAT A LESSON TO ANY OTHERE *ER THAT WANTS TO COME TO THE UK AND STEEL OUR RIGHTS THIS IS A WHITE ENGLISH COUNTRY NOT A IMMERGRANT ****ING COUNTRY BUT NOW ITS ANY ONES COUNTRY LOOK AT BRADISTAN OOPS I MEEN BRADFORD ITS SPOT THE WHITE MAN ITS FUL OF PAKIS LIVING IN OUR COUNTRY AND HALF OF THEM ARE ILLEGAL IMMERGRANTS CLAIMING FROM OUR HARD EARNED TAXES
The irony is never lost on me that these people have a terribly poor grasp of English... The 'Johnny foreigners' often have a much higher level of spelling and grammar.
Ok, she votes BNP and is wary of Islam, that means she must be a member of the EDL, living off the state, and married to an alcoholic thug!
😮 Good heavens, this is sheer projection! Whoever said anything like this?
Tigerlily, that was a lovely post.
sunkiss,
You have every right to express your opinions, but I feel that they mostly stem from fear of the unknown.
When it comes to Islam I know enough, thankyou very much.
My neighboring towns of Twickenham and Hounslow are very densely populated Muslim areas, I have really had my eyes opened in the last year or so.
I need to be careful what I say here because HP deletes anything they consider to carry even a hint of racism, but I am now VERY wary of Islam and what it represents, wish I could be more precise but I don't want to be banned like Victoria Barnes in the GE thread.
Am I racist?-If being wary of one particular religion, but completely fine with every other makes me racist then so be it.
I'm afraid I don't understand quite what you mean by 'wary of Islam'. Personally I am extremely wary of some forms of Christianity and indeed any fundamentalist version of any religion at all.
But I don't lump all members of all religions together. People are people. Human beings with hopes, fears, desires, loves. Have you ever got to know Muslims personally? (BTW, who is Victoria Barnes and what is the GE thread?) I have to repeat that I am really happy that I don't live in fear as you seem to. OMG, how coincidental - even as I type the TV news is showing the confrontation outside the Barking Dog. How different from the moving scenes we've become used to from Wootton Bassett.
How pathetic both sides looked shouting slogans of hatred in Barking.
Reading some of this thread I am so happy to be able to say that I like some English people, some Indian, some Welsh, some Albanian, some Scottish etc... but do you know what? there are some English, Indian, Welsh, Albanian, Scottish etc people that I really don't like.
Wonder why? well because I try really hard to like and judge a person for who they are as a person - not necessarily their religion which I may or may not agree with, or their language which I may or may not understand, or their culture which may be similar or totally different to mine because, whilst I accept that I may not always succeed because I am human and don't always get it right....
I ENDEAVOUR TO GET TO KNOW A PERSON AS AN INDIVIDUAL!
Not for me the intentional mob mentality of lumping everyone together under a racial or religious heading - -although I realise its so much easier to decide not to look at an individual because if you do see people individually then I guess you might realise we are all pretty similar under the skin - whatever the colour.
In summary - there are some lovely people around - there are some I really don't like. The reasons are various and rarely if ever related to their nationality, religion or cultural beliefs.
Why not widen up your viewpoint if you don't agree with me... you could have many pleasant surprises.
When it comes to Islam I know enough, thankyou very much.
I can tell from your posts that you don't. And I said 'fear of the unknown', not specifically fear of Islam. I am also near densly populated Muslim areas, but I don't understand what you mean by 'your eyes have been opened'.
I'm also wary of aspects of Islam, but I can pick the brains of my friend or partner, who normally give me a sensible answer. That's all you have to do: ask people... These extremests are in the minority, even if it's a noisy minority. The media only ever pick up on the negative side. The fact is, even though I'm living with a Muslim, it doesn't really factor very heavily in my life. I just had an hour long conversation with my best friend, covering the fact that my O/H was getting on my nerves yesterday, her husband's family are getting on her nerves, I had an injection and a blood test at the hospital today and the fact that I'd tried to ring her earlier and her 3 year old girl answered the phone earlier, told me that you can't take cats on holiday with you and said she was going to play on mummy's phone and then hung up. All random, banal, funny topics... Islam didn't feature anywhere; why would it? Because we're both humans, very different in many, many ways, but good friends. That's what most Muslims are: very different to 'us', but people who face the same ol' situations in life everyday.
It amazes me that my experiences of Islam are so different to many others. It does help to get to know these people. If you live near to them, do you encounter them in your working life? I promise you that poison doesn't seep from their skin or that they have a penchant for human flesh. I don't dislike you for your views, but I do feel sorry for you, because you're potentially missing out on getting to know some amazing people. And you wouldn't fear them as much if you had someone in your life who you loved and was Muslim.
I think ALL religions have their dodgy sides, but a lot of things are rooted in common sense. Prime example: Jewish and Muslim boys are circumcised, this can prevent a lot of medical problems later in life. At least three members of my family have had to be circumcised as older children due to medical issues and those areas in the world where circumcision occurs has much lower rates of cervical cancer. So following a bit of Jewish and Islamic practice can actually save lives, hurrah!
You can choose to focus on the positive or negative.
Just to add:
I need to be careful what I say here because HP deletes anything they consider to carry even a hint of racism, but I am now VERY wary of Islam and what it represents, wish I could be more precise but I don't want to be banned like Victoria Barnes in the GE thread.
I don't think you've said anything that warrants being deleted, I think it's a good thing in a way that you are expressing your opinions, even if I'm inclined to disagree with them. I'm sure you're a decent human being, but I maintain that you are a fearful one.
Just edited to say sorry for going off-topic by miles... that's what always happens when immigration issues are raised...
