My favourite one from this group is: "i aint a racist but its a known fact english is the 2nd language in this country now that aint right." Just realised that Supersub has posted this on HP as well. Obviously shows how stupid that FB post was.

Is it a known fact? May be in very small pockets, but then these racists have very small minds and don't get out of their area that often. Or is it me that has a small mind living in a very White British area without the racial tensions. Oh I shouldn't of said that, the fascists will what to come down to live in Cornwall, and moan that there isn't the facilities that they are used to having and have to drive 15 miles to a decent "Indian" curry house, lol 🙂

As for those who posted on FB moaning about the English flag, plenty around at the moment.

Hahaha... just looked at that Facebook page - is it a joke?! Sadly probably not. But this was one of many comments that made me laugh:

"i aint a racist but its a known fact english is the 2nd language in this country now that aint right."

I loved this too! There's a large proportion of people with English as a second language whose language is better than people with English as a first language!

On the original point - do people feel that Facebook should be more responsible for the removal of this type of content? It's quite a responsibility and brings up the whole question of free speech all over again!

Personally I think that it should be a collective responsibility - a bit like they treat spam - if there are enough people who complain then it's reasonable to assume that you are doing something that people aren't fond of!

Hi Celia

Yes that was an interesting link.

Tell that to the racists who have some strange ideas about English purity forgetting that we are really many cultures and tribes of Europe (and beyond now) mixed in together, and the English language shows that. And this St George thing isn't English at all and if St George existed he never came here. Isn't nationalism silly? And I don't believe a lot of the stories the press say about immigrants sucking the state dry. More like British businesses taking advantage of a cheap labour force.

Very good. One book I always recommend to young journalists is Melvyn Bragg's The Adventure Of English - a fascinating tale of how we come to speak the language that we do (well, obviously not the "majority" who apparently speak some other language, obviously... :D)

I would imagine that some of you are on facebook. I have been invited to join a group - I Was Born In The Uk. So Why Do I Have Less Rights Then Immigrants? http://www.causes.com/causes/197529

"Please excuse Language"

:eek:I did not accept. The thing was it was sent to me by a Senior Principle Minister of the Corinthian Church and Healing Association.

And we complain about what people say on Healthy pages.;)

Do you think that facebook should clean up it's act?

No, it's called free speech. Preventing people from saying what they're really thinking will cause major resentment.
Immigration from non EU countries must be capped, things are getting completely out of hand. We have enough money worries of our own without funding people that aren't even native to Britain.
Many of my friends come across as being soooo PC on the outside, but what they're really thinking and feeling is another story completely..they would never air their true feelings in public through fear of being labelled a racist, where as I am very open about how I feel.

A new policy has just been passed that insists all non EU immigrants must pass an English test before access to Britain is granted, definitely a step in the right direction.
I have also just read that Barcelona have today banned the burka from public buildings, along with France and Belgium, this is very positive.

Are you therefore saying that you are a racist, Sunkiss?

Why is it positive? What's wrong with a burka exactly?

And by wanting a cap on 'non EU' immigrants I'm supposing you don't have Americans, Canadians and Australians in mind? 🙁

Edit: I thought this tone sounded familiar, so I looked back and reread what you posted about voting BNP on the general election thread. That makes things clearer.

Sunkiss, just out of interest, at what stage would you consider a person to be "native to Britain"? I'm asking purely because I wonder if you realise that many of the people you so object to (and presume are immigrants based on the colour of their skin and/or their clothing preferences) are actually Britain-born, to families that have been settled here for generations.

Facebook is an entirely separate issue, on which I am torn. I even have to ponder what free speech actually is, because all I saw in that fb group were people too afraid of being marginalised themselves to actually think independantly, and instead choosing to come over as intolerant, narrow-minded and well, ....quite thick!

An odd thought?

The expression of freedom to some is the denial of freedom to others.

who are the Burka?

burka - a loose garment (usually with veiled holes for the eyes) worn by Muslim women especially in India and Pakistan; "the Taliban forced all women to wear the burqa"

Yes, Celtic peoples migrated into the Iberian peninsular a few hundred years BC (and there was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing before that).

When the Romans arrived in Britian the ancient British people spoke the Brythonic language which is very closely related to Welsh. Even the word 'Britain' is derived from the Welsh 'Prydain'. All those who want to be radically and 'native' British should be speaking Welsh, not English.

Just a thought...

I remember watching a programme some years ago about the first migrations of early humans out of Africa. If I remember rightly, about 70,000 years ago those first migrating humans made their way to southern India, and it was about 30 thousand years later that humans arrived in Europe. The conclusion for the modern world was that unless we are of African descent, all the rest of us are descended from a southern Indian ancestor.

I do find it sad that so many people see only the differences between themselves and others, and not the similarities.

P.S.
If you believe in reincarnation, there is a very strong possibility that many of us have lived a life as a Chinese person, and if we haven't yet the chances are we will in the future. Something to look forward to, Sunkiss? 🙂
