I don't normally post in the CA forum but felt it important to highlight this:

British shoppers are to be banned from buying eggs by the dozen under new regulations approved by the European Parliament. Experts say it will be next year before the EU is able to pass the controversial measure, which bureaucrats say is designed to help consumers make an informed choice when buying their food because it will require suppliers to provide more comprehensive information. But food industry experts said the EU plan was 'bonkers' and 'absolute madness'.

The new rules will mean that instead of packaging telling shoppers a box contains six eggs, it will show the weight in grams of the eggs inside, for example 372g.

Or that a bag of white rolls has 322g inside instead of half a dozen. The rules will not allow both the weight and the quantity to be displayed.

I can't imagine buying my eggs by their weight and am annoyed about this. and I shall find it most confusing.:p

I wonder what our new leader David Cameron's will do about this, as his pre-Election promise was to stand up for Britain's interests in the EU??

How crazy,eh?

This is a quote from the EU press release on the matter:

Despite numerous news reports in the past 48 hours, there are no EU plans to ban the sale of eggs sold by the dozen, or even by the half-dozen for that matter!

http://ec.europa.eu/unitedkingdom/blog/index_en.htm

I think now we've got a Tory government, there will be a lot of anti-European stiring.

But as with all things, the facts don't sell papers.

No, it was the newspapers making up stories because anti-EU sells.

Even if it were true, I'm sure you'd be able to recognise a box of 6 eggs as opposed a box of 12 eggs just by the size of the box, even if it didn't say 6 or 12 on the label. 😉

You trust your postman to deliver eggs without breaking them? Rather you than me. 😀

I think the idea was more along the lines of online shopping with Tesco home delivery (or similar such service). 😉
