Hope this is in the right place, please move if not!

I have just seen this on Yahoo news on my computer and as it was only reported an hour ago I thought our Druid members here would find it of interest

Good to see an ancient religion come back into its own.

Really good news! Years ago I met a lady who was then a spokesperson for Druids and she was so inspiring and special! 🙂

Love and peace,

Judy

There was an article on this in the Telegraph this morning. They can now register as a charity I believe. The article wasn't very in depth about druidry, just that it has been finaly recognised as an official religion.

Being someone who lives in a Celtic region, I found this article on Druidry quite interesting. Eventhough the ancient Druids have gone, Celtic expressions of spiritually still exists in folklore, myth, the land and in the language to this very day. Eventhough modern Druidry is mainly from romantics and reconstructionists, it is highly moral and seeks balance in all things. Therefore it's due the recognition it deserves.

Best Wishes

Hi

Saw this recent article in the Daily Mail attacking Druidry and Paganism: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1317490/Druids-official-religion-Stones-Praise-come.html

At first I thought it was a joke and laughed, but now realised it was an outrageous article. Read it and if you feel that it is moronic attack on minority religions then here is a petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/druid1/

Best Wishes

I agree the article is offensive. I am neither pagan nor Druid as such, but there is no necessity for such ill-informed, bigoted comments.

Hi - I actually popped on the post a link to the article & the petition but good to see it's already here.

If you look on the Druid network site Emma Restall-Orr has written an brilliant well-worded reply. I hope that the Daily Mail will publish it but probably they won't. I and many others have also complained to the Press Complaints Commission as the article is inherently badly researched, misleading & inflammatory.

Blessings all x

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I never read the very biased Daily Mail, and this article only underlines my point. This Melanie obviously follows the official line of Conservatism in all matters, and is obviously ill read & narrow minded, and would rather support the Orthodox Religions, who have been responsible for Holy Wars killing countless millions over the centuries, oppression of people and perpetuating the rule of the state by keeping everybody in their place, and hoarding countless riches. The Druid, Pagan & Wiccan followers have only the well being of our planet, it's creatures and others in their hearts. The World would be a very much better place if more people thought for themselves and took more care of our planet. We have a very large and increasing number of followers from all corners of the Planet of these Spiritual Beliefs, as well as more open minded followers from all religions. In this day and age it seams incredible that such a story should even be published, and that the lady should be employed as a writer, as she obviously has not done any research.

I agree that the Daily Mail article was crass and insulting, but that's the Daily Mail for you - they need sensationalism to sell papers. However, RAS, stooping to Melanie Phillips level with a crass and insulting attack on orthodox religions does not help your cause one little bit. I think it was Gandhi who said, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

At the core of all religions is morality, spirituality and taking responsibility for the care of others, based on a connection with the one Source. The book of Genesis is holy scripture in both Judaism and Christianity and it states that God gave man responsibility over all the earth and all creatures in it. Obviously, that's been ignored. Unfortunately, it is not the original teachings, but men who have corrupted and abused out of greed and a desire for power. please don't only judge the past evils, or how a few splinter groups behave today - look for the good in each. After all, the Romans accused the ancient Druids of human sacrifice - if that's true, everyone has blood on their hands.
